"Speed Guns dont work" says Police Supt charged with driving at 79mph..
'Speed guns don't work,' says police superintendent clocked driving at 79mph
By Claire Ellicott
A senior policewoman clocked speeding is challenging the charge by claiming that the speed gun used by her own force was not accurate.
If she wins, it could open the floodgates to thousands of appeals from motorists across the country who have been caught using the devices.
Superintendent Helen Chamberlain, 43, was recorded driving at 79mph on a road with a 50mph limit.
She was given a verbal warning by the officer who stopped her. But a more senior officer disagreed with the decision and asked the Crown Prosecution Service to review the case.
Supt Chamberlain, from Harworth, Nottinghamshire, who works for Nottinghamshire police's city division, pleaded not guilty to a charge of speeding at Nottingham magistrates' court on Wednesday.
Ian Boddy, defending, said that questions over the accuracy of the speed gun test result would form the basis of her not guilty plea.
He added that he would also seek to challenge the process that led to the decision to overrule the initial warning and the quality of traffic signs on the road she was caught on.
But Brian Gunn, prosecuting, said the defence would mean that expert technical witnesses would have to be called.
He also raised questions over why the officer failed to challenge the caution she was given when she was initially caught, adding: 'I would want to, under cross examination, ask the defendant why she did not challenge this at the time.'
Seven witnesses are now expected to be called at Supt Chamberlain's trial in October. She was released on unconditional bail prior to the trial but has not been suspended from duty during the case, senior police sources confirmed last night.
Last year, a police officer who was caught driving at 98mph in a 50mph zone claimed the speed limit was not enforceable because the signs were not lit.
Sergeant Craig Nicholas Jones, an organised crime officer with North Wales Police, was taking a prisoner from Colwyn Bay to Caernarfon when he was stopped.
The 40-year-old was fined £500 by Llandudno magistrates, with £1,000 costs.
Another policeman caught speeding at 100mph last year told a court he had been late for work. Matthew Stott was allowed to keep his licence despite admitting the charge.
Nottinghamshire police and the Home Office both declined to comment on an ongoing case.

As a police officer (and a pretty high up one at that) is she honestly going to say in Court that she knew or had doubts about their accuracy but said nothing whilst they were in use and convicting possibly innocent drivers until she herself was caught by one?

I thought it had been fairly common-knowledge for years that the handheld guns' accuracy varied massively depending on how well they were operated, giving higher speeds if they weren't held still when taking a reading and so on.
Classic human hypocrisy I'm afraid......but said nothing whilst they were in use and convicting possibly innocent drivers until she herself was caught by one?0 -
29 MPH over the limit and she's blaming an inaccurate reading what's that a 58% errorNothing to see here, move along.0

The guns can be stroked down the side of the car/bike during aiming leading to massive speed errors.0

You make it sound quite sensual...

Another case where it will be covered up and she'll walk away with a slapped wrist and even a packet of sweets, bravo to this country - welcome to England!0

Daily Mail, probably fabricated rubbish as usual.0

working for the police there are many ways to find out how things cannot be enforced.
you will probably find that she was speeding - that cannot be denied but if she knows certain things which most cops do there is technicalites excuse spelling please where she can appeal against and will more than likely be let off with. officers are meant to do follow certain procedures before using speed analysing equipment the super probably knew that the cops had not followed through with that and she was taking an easy way out
but do not read everything you hear in the paper:A VK :A0 -

Especially the Daily Mail.
“Brave Policeman Puts Two Fingers Up To New Labour ‘ealth and Safety Speeding Laws”
- By Richard Littledick
Policeman Helen Chamberlain has shown us that it’s possible to defeat the tyranny of the spying laws brought in no doubt by New Labour (or European beurocrats) a fine example of an honest, white middle-class gentleman saying NO to the foul socialist legislation allowing police to SPY into our lives by monitoring OUR speed on the roads.
I don’t know about you, but I drive a nice big car, and pay a lot of roadtax. Surely this should allow me to speed MORE, but no, all the money that should be spent on a nice big straight road for me is being squandered on asylum seekers no doubt, or a gay services desk at the local library, or just going straight to Brussels so they can spend all of my hard earned money on the Polish. Personally I think it would be much fairer if your maximum speed was limited by the price of your car. Hopefully it’d get a few dole scroungers back in to work if they could only do 10mph!
Homosexuals don’t have the special motor abilities to drive cars, as their heads are full of cushions, Winnie The Pooh and things I can’t bring myself to think about so I think they shouldn’t be allowed cars, let alone speed. Same goes for Johnnie Foreigner too.
If all an honest Englishman has to do to get out of paying a speeding fine is to stand and proudly tell a court they are wrong,
and their equipment is wrong with no basis, then I salute this brave policeman. If lying is the only resort of an honest Englishman, then I feel that it should be allowed, especially if he has a nice house.
We all know that working class driving too quickly gives the memory of Princess Diana AIDS.
Every peice of legislation that I think was introduced by New Labour that is enacted allows another 40 asylum seekers to enter the UK, eat your house and steal your car! Think about that next time you pay somebody minimum wage!
PC Chamberlain I salute you.

You wait for his column tomorrow!
