  • Good luck! Have a good MSE week.
Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D

Well here we are in October and the nights are definitely drawing in. The weather has been real contrasts here; on Thursday I was sitting outside having a coffee in my break and enjoying really warm sunshine but by Friday I was wondering if I should have spent my time building an ark - sooooo much rain.

The mortgage amount came out on 1st and we are both excited because its now £50,400 so the magic £50,000 is in sight and thats half of our original mortgage and to get below that will feel like a major achievement. We're going to try and overpay quite a bit this month to get it down to that, I find it helps me to have that kind of mini-goal.

Been quite a week with getting the job I went for, they want me to start ASAP so will be arranging meetings tomorrow to get started.

Hope everyone has the week they want

An overpayment of £55 today - found £5 in an envelope, didn't know it was there and the rest was the contents of the many pigs, cows n cat banks that I save change in .

When I was in the bank [HBOS] the cashier said I wouldn't be able to overpay in cash from the New Year :eek:. They are joining up with Lloyds then and the system is changing apparently :p:p. She said it would need to be a SO or DD to make a payment but thats not much use to us as we overpay when we can and its varying amounts. She suggested I ring the Halifax mortgage people to ask them. Hopefully there will still be a way of doing it.

Wondered if anyone else has heard about this change?

I'll call them when I get back - going away for a few days, not been away anywhere since last November so looking forward v much to it. I did take time off work in the summer but with OH facing redundancy at the time, we didn't go away. He doesn't like his new job and is pretty unhappy in it so not sure what will happen.

Ah well, onwards and upwards or downwards with the mortgage.

Hello teapot - just caught up (have had a manic month) Well done on reaching the half way mark!! :D
Also big congrats on your job!!!

Re OPing, if they say you can pay by sto, get all the details and use them to set up online payments - that's how I OP to C&G (part of LLoyds) - irregular amounts as and when and I just do it as an online bill payment from my c/ac. It'll mean you have to pay the cash into ytour c/ac, but then you can whizz home and set up the online payment to the mtge. Mine is on faster payment system so gets there quickly, too :)
I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soul
    Repaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NIL
    Net sales 2024: £20

Hi greent, thanks for your kind comments and I know what you mean about manic months :D I got thrown in at the deep end with my new p/t job which is fine but my diary looks very full. I have 5 bits of work I do and its trying to fit in times with everyone elses committments too that can get complicated. Never mind, its done now for the rest of the month at least.

At the moment its not possible to overpay online with the Halifax so hopefully they will change it when Lloyds get involved. I'll give them a ring next week and see what they say.

Had a good break and enjoyed my time away - its so much warmer down south, I'd forgotten that....

Well, OH overpaid by £200 when I was away and that took us nearly down to £50,000 which is half of our original mortgage. Soooooo the hunt was on to try and find a way to get it below the halfway mark. In the end I paid £300 out of my amazon selling account - had been saving up to get a good digital camera but my MFW longings took over and I paid it in. Of course they took interest and added it on so we were at £50,013 which was really annoying so on the way to work yesterday I got very wet and overpaid a bit more and hooray :j:j its now at £49,989 so we've broken into the fortys which is a great feeling :j

Well done, what a great result :)

Edit: didn't realise you could save money in your seller account, I thought it was 'the law' that you had to get it paid to you & then make a £4.32 etc electronic payment to the mortgage, add it to your spreadsheets then have a huff when it doesn't knock a month off your MFD ;)
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
    :) Mortgage Balance = £0 :)
