I really agree with the point about getting into a no spending mindset. I have kept away from temptation for so long that I don't even think about buying little goodies and 'treats' any more. Probably because I have realised that it is not a treat when the cc bill comes in. I often think that we are lured by money saving offers like 10% off, or bogoff and we think we have done well - but if we had not gone to the shop, we would still have the money and not missed what we didn't know about. These things only save money when they are for real necessities, and that isn't often the case.
Good luck with it all,
Sensible squirrel (maybe just for today!)
Hello Secret Saving Squirrel [still sensible on Monday?] you are so right about being 'lured' :rotfl:. I'm still enjoying having cleared my CCs so am not tempted at the mo to use them but I think Xmas might be more tricky on that front. I was in Paperchase the other day and sooooooo many shiny, shiny things that I don't need had my name on them but I was very good and just got some pens and a card which was what I went in for. Oh but lovely handmade paper and journeals and notebooks......... stop it, slap on wrist.
Hope you are having a good day, Teapot0 -

Thanks, by the time we pay off the next mortgage installment and a few overpayments we should be down to the £50000. I know there's interest to pay on top of that but being at the halfway point will feel like such an achievement.
Looks like you're doing pretty well on your MFW quest though - less than a year to go, brilliant :beer:0 -
Well done Teapot2 paying 1/2 off in 6 years is very good. Also well done for realising your dreams and moving many people would never get around to doing that. I am glad your DH got a new job that must be so scary.

Hi Tall Girl, thanks you're right, when I look back on what we've managed to do in the last few years its a good feeling. Somehow when in the middle of it its hard to get that perspective sometimes. Well done on paying off your mortgage nine years early - thats great, bet it was such a good feeling
It is good news about OH getting work but he's been having major wobbles about it - its not really the kind of job he wants and he isn't sure he can do it. I think he can do it and have been trying to support him by talking through all the new tasks he's being asked to undertake. We also talked about him having a choice and leaving if its really stressing him out and we'll do our best to manage somehow - am in the MSE groove now :rotfl:
Love your avatar - we are catless at the mo and am feeling broody for a mog or two. Have you seen the Ikea ad with all the cats and kittens? Looooovvverly.0 -
Hi, Can i ask how you make the overpayments to your mortgage? is it online? i can overpay with nationwide, and i've cut the term by 4 years, but never overpaid monthly before.0

Hi themull1,
we used to be with Northern cRock and did overpayments over the phone with a debit card and they would send a letter of receipt. Now we are with Halifax and we cant do online with them. I nip into our High Street branch clutching bags of coins and some coins that are random making up, say, £10 and pay it in over the counter :rotfl:. We overpay when we can really, sometimes its around pay day if theres any money left from previous pay and as I'm self employed if I do a bit extra work I might pay that in. Its little and as often as we can manage but it does add up and make a difference.
Well done on cutting by 4 years - so do you make occasional overpayments rather than regular ones?0 -
Another busy week with lots of early starts - am not good at those, if left to my own devices I'd stay up to the early hours and sleep late I think.
Had a very nice day out on Wednesday with my sis. It was for my birthday which was ages ago but we hadn't had a chance to go before. Went to the Glasgow Boys exhibition - interesting works. Sis paid for everything so it was a big treat and we had a lovely meal - I finished with the most enormous ice cream sundae. Nearly had to look for a furniture exhibit to lie down on and sleep it off :rotfl:.
Had my haircut this week as well - am a bit phobic about it but hairdresser was good and listened and did what I wanted. So thats a result and I would go back to her.
Definitely getting colder up here and we've had the heating on for a wee while in the evenings. Went out to the seaside yeaterday and had a rake round some charity shops but didn't buy anything much. Did some shopping at Mr T - usually go Mr A as its nearer but its good to go somewhere else occassionally. Got quite a bit of stuff to stock up the cupboards. Must stop buying teabags and tins of beans and beans and sausages as we've got enough to last for years.
