Ebay - change mid auction to buy it now?

Dear MoneySavers,

I have an item for sale on ebay. I have 1 bid of 99p and 3 watchers. I have 6 days left on the item. I have received a question from a potential buyer asking if I have a buy it now price.

Am I able to change to a buy it now price even though the auction has already started?

Thanks in advance for your help

End the auction and sell it off ebay to your interested buyer.

Try to take a non reversable payment (ie not paypal).

    No fees - Happy days.

I know it sounds obvious but make sure you and the buyer as both happy with the price before you de-list the auction as I wouldn't be surprised if the 'buy it now-er' is expecting to get the item at or very near the 99p start price.

I was tempted once to change my auction to buy it now as there was no bidders. I let it run instead and at the final one hour it ended with 15 bids and was 5 times the price of the buy it now request. As most people will bid at the last minutes (seconds) its something to think twice about.

I agree, I have an item finishing later this afternoon. I started it at £2.99 and have had a few watchers and an early bid. In the past hour it has shot up to well over £20 and i suspect it may well go for more. Yet another item I completely miscalculated the value of I suspect.

Cheers guys for getting back to me.

I replied and told them my buy it now (£25) - You can buy it for that brand new in the shops (my item is also brand new - never opened)

I've had no reply so far....

    We'll see what happens.

One question - what do you mean by non reversable payment? Is that waiting for the cheque to clear before sending?

I'll keep you posted. ... I am very excited .. I've never sold on ebay before.

Mr Brooker is a regular and much loved poster but has a bee in his bonnet about paypal, having been banned one too many times. Just ignore the post, you'll find most people have him on ignore.

You would struggle to find a buyer prepared to use any other payment apart from paypal.

Cheques and postal orders are fine, as is cash on collection, but paypal is a bit risky,

The people who work for ebay and post to this forum will tell you that the only way to pay for anything is by paypal, but most people prefer to use a normal safer payment method.

    Good luck with your sale.

Unless the item gets lost in the post (or not sent in the first place), in which case the seller's got your money and you've got no item and no way to get your money back.

Off ebay paypal transactions are more risky.
