What return details do you put on the back of parcels

  • My mum once received a package returned with a note from RM telling her off for only putting her house number and postcode as a return address. It got returned fine, didn't it?

But because of the above little incident, I now always put initial and surname, house number and road and postcode.
  • I put surname, flat number plus block name, and postcode. I get things returned fine like that. :)

The mail goes back to the sorting office dealing with that postcode. To deal with it quickly (where's custardy), a full address is better. The postmen often do their own sorting in the depot to get out quicker and don't always know the codes off by heart. It takes an extra few seconds to write it fully, so why not do it? If using a printer, it's easy. If writing, it helps if the postcode becomes smudged.

Write, what is this quaint old fashioned notion, buy Able labels (or any other cheap brand) by the thousands and just stick them on :rotfl:

See, that powerseller status has gone to your head. I bet many on here sell a few a month. Because I'm so tight, I add my address to the posting label, rather than invest in more paper.

£8.20 for 1000 labels wont exactly break the bank.

I use a rubber stamp myself.

Didn't know Royal Mail made rubber stamps. Do they come bouncing back so you can use them again?

I've got several of those as well, but I never remember to use them on my jiffy bags until the item is wrapped, and attempting to stamp a filled jiffy bag ends in disaster. One day I may even remember to pre stamp my jiffy bags, although that might be getting a bit too logical for me!

That's the thing. I have a note on my desk where I pack telling me to stamp before packing. It's slowly getting through my dense head

I print a page of Avery labels as and when I need them, template is setup in MS word, with name, address, postcode, country and a little line across the top that I highlight in yellow that says 'If undelivered please return to:' to stop post office muppets thinking it's the 'to' address and sending it back to me.
