Suggest that you escalate and complain to Andy Clarke, ASDA Chief Executive, via sending him an email to andy.clarke@asda.co.uk.

Good luck and hope this helps.

Really? OMG. Stop being so melodramatic. Contact CEO because of 50p increase?? Anyway, just take the trousers in next time, ask kindly to return them at price purchased, and ask to rebuy them at the ticketed price. Simples :)

Also, they don't price your shopping in the shop, its' all done online then they just pick the items you've requested. It wasn't anyone's fault, except the price decrease mustn't have been put online when you had ordered :)

I agree that 50p really isn't worth getting worked up about BUT I would certainly be annoyed if I bought something only to get home and discover that it had a price ticket that gave a lower price than I had been overcharged.

I was under the (possibly wrong) impression that if something was priced at a certain price, stores were not allowed to stick a higher price label over the old one (I'm thinking of supermarket stuff like tins really but I can't see that there is any difference with other goods). What Asda did with the OP may be legal but its also rather sharp practice - and certainly not a practice likely to create a positive customer feeling! If Asda have any sense, they will apologise to the OP and give her a refund - even if only for the sake of good customer practice.

This is the problem. Whether we agree that writing to the CEO (on an imaginary email address) or not is appropriate, this muppet needs to actually read the original post.

Can anyone really imagine the CEO getting involved for 50p when a) OP hasn't even been back to customer services and b) OP actually has no entitlement to that princely 50p.

This was an online order. OP was not overcharged.

They will give her the difference back, but she's not been "overcharged". Kinda have to look at the online store as a seperate place because the prices aren't the same. I bought a Canon from Jessops online for £240, it was £260 in the store, even though I went and collected it, you know?

I realise that - I made a typing error and meant to type 'charged' not overcharged. Its not the price difference that would annoy me - its the fact that they appear to have left and actual price ticket showing a lower price on the item. This would indicate that the item was manufacturer to be sold at the price on the ticket - so charging me more would have got right up my nose!

I totally accept that online and store prices may well differ considerably - but company's should make sure that there are no price tickets left on which may give their game away. What you don't know won't annoy you.

  • Thanks for all your replies. I agree that 50p isn't much, but I did buy a few pairs. I am happy to pay £3 per pair as this is a good deal, but I was just surprised that the price tickets showed a lower price and I wasn't sure this was allowed.

I agree with you tbw, they should take the labels off, or charge the same.

I might as well ask Asda, they can only say no.

I would play dumb when you phone them, go along the lines of 'I paid £3 but when I got them the price said £2.50 on each item, is that right?'
