Pc Techno Support, scam?

Options
My dad has had a call from these people this morning offering pc support. He has handed over £70 and they have accessed his desktop remotly in order to help it run smooth/fix bugs etc....

I was horrified to hear of this and assume it's a scam. If he is lucky he has just lost the money but could they have installed a trojon/key logger/other dangerous programme which could compromise his computer, harvest passwords or cause havoc?

What should we do now?

Thank you

download and run malwarebytes from here

to see if they have installed any nasties first.

You could do a System Restore. Pick a time before the even took place.

    Still run the scans though.

Get onto the credit card/bank company and tell them, you may get the money back, just do not delay.

  • I've had a few phone calls from this company in the past month. The man was very persistent and would not take no for an answer. Even when I hung up on him, he was still on the other end of the line a minute later.

When I did give him the chance to explain what he was trying to do he was following his sales pitch and would not vere off it. I asked what I would need to do and how much it would cost. Again he would not vere away from the sales pitch and tried to direct me to click on a button to allow hime remote user access. At this point I really wasn't happy and told him I wasn't prepared to continue, which he wouldn't accept.

At the point of reaching remote user access stage he still hadn't told me how much it would cost.

If you get a call from these people, just hang up, they don't like taking no for an answer!!!
