The silliest thing I ever did was leave a carrier bag with a brand new top in hanging on the back of the trolley after I'd put my shopping bags into the car,"If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

I think I've done all of these things
Once I visited a cashpoint and then when I came to pay for the thing I got the cash out for 5 minutes later, I still didn't have any money in my wallet, although the cashpoint receipt was there. That made me feel *really* stupid. Of course the money wasn't still at the cashpoint when I ran back, and I knew it wouldn't be, but you have to be sure don't you?
I've found the odd mobile phone or things like that in a store and handed them in, or stopped people who were leaving without something, and had the favour returned on occasion, but I do wonder sometimes when handing things in that people don't take down any details. Certainly in a hotel if you leave something it never ends up being there when you ring up to ask, or come back the following week. You know full well the cleaners have half-inched it, but you've got no proof, and all you can do is go somewhere else with your custom.0 -
I left a bag of shopping in my local Budgens and the next time I went in there the lady on the till said 'we've got some of your shopping here, do you want it?
'
They had written down what I'd left and went and got if off the shelves again and gave it to me!The best portion of your life will be the small, nameless moments you spend smiling with someone who matters to you.0 -

I don't know how true this is, I hope the man got his money back
When I worked as a cashier it was policy that any cash handed in that they found was handed into cash office to keep if someone decided to claim it. I found out later that anything unclaimed was used to pay for the managers' Christmas do. In those cases I think it would be better if the person that found it just kept it for themselves.0 -
I once left £20 in a cashmachine. One of those ones where the money comes out at your crotch. I was talking to someone and just forgot to pick it up. The lady in the queue behind me came running after me when she'd got her own money out to give it me back. It made my week knowing there were people honest enough to do that.
In work the other day I was on the shop floor when a customer came out of the fitting rooms and said that someone had left their handbag. I removed it and was putting it behind the till when a customer who was trying to pay suddenly exclaimed "I've lost my handbag!" (Not knowing what I was doing.) We told her to check everything was in it and it was, not a thing missing.

I've only ever profited to people's forgetfulness in packing twice from 'empty' trolleys. One was a Cadbury Flake and the other was a box of Laughing Cow cheese triangles. Cheers.
I went to a cashpoint one time and £20 came out of it and I realised it was the guy who had just been there, so I ran after him and gave it to him. He was very thankful.
I am always wondering if I actually did take my note change or cashback from the self serve tills as it comes out of such a random place (i think).0 -
Certainly in a hotel if you leave something it never ends up being there when you ring up to ask, or come back the following week.
Two years ago I spent a weekend in a hotel in the south of Ireland. When packing I forgot about a new jacket I had bought for my trip (it still had the labels on it!) that was hanging in the wardrobe. I rang the hotel and they confirmed they had it and posted it to me. I was very happy!
On the other hand, I was shopping with family at the weekend in a retail outlet village. We had bought quite a bit and it was only when we got home we realised a bag was missing. We rang all the shops we had been in and no one had handed it in. So if you have a Levi blouse and t-shirt that you found on Saturday, shame on you!!"I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they're right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together." I didn't have a good weekend all in all shopping wise. Got charged in the Co-op £3.98 for something that cost 39p but at least I can get that back.
I bought two reduced cakes in Waitrose for 45p each, only for the till to charge me £450!! I did point out to the checkout girl that I thought it was a tad steep for two cakes, even if they are Waitrose ones:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0 -

We had this happen in Waitrose as well!!
The bill came to £260.00 for a few items, one worrying thing was that the CA did not bat an eyelid and would quite happily have taken the money had we not said it wasn't right.0
