Hmmm.......points to consider (assuming that demand for this toy outstrips supply):
1: Children will probably put a huge amount of pressure on parents to get one of these toys. The RRP is not huge (compared to a new games console) and well within the grasp of most families as a main present for Christmas.
2: Watching the market take control of the value due to scarcity will mean that this toy will be priced outside of the budget of many families on lower incomes. This is something that is clearly well beyond the grasp of a five year old who just wants an Elmo for Christmas (especially when little Jimmy's parents next door managed to get him one because he decided what he wanted in October and not the second week in December).
3: Wouldn't more of the families have the ability to buy Elmo's if we didn't all buy the damn things as an investment (please don't say that if we didn't do it, someone else would - it's last defence of the ethically bankrupt).
4: Shouldn't anyone who buys these toys at RRP and then ebay's them a week before Christmas be forced to slowly walk through every economically deprived estate in the country holding a sign saying "I bought Elmo's for £35 and sold them for £100" ? I am sure that everyone would admire the enterprising entreprenureal spirit.
5: I am sure that there are some people out there who have low incomes who are using this method to make a bit of money for Christmas for their families ("Not all MSE'rs are middle class Mail readers, so get off your high horse Trotsky !!"), well great, but, it's a Christmas toy for young kids for godssake (besides I am quietly confident that many of these Elmo's will be used to give Tabitha a bit of extra money for her gap year in Thailand "We just want to make sure she get's the cultural experience without having to worry about finance, you never really see the best of a country if you are constantly counting your change. Anyway, don't you think that Cameron is a breath of fresh air? Ooooh look, M&S fish and chip canapes !!")
6: The workers flag is deepest red etc etc
What do you think folks ?0 -

You know, I'm convinced that this almost never happens. When toys become hard to get hold of kids are normally happy with an alternative, especially if they are promised one at a later date.
It's the parents who feel they have achieved something special by getting the "hard to get" toy who fuel everything in the first place. Then they feel let down because the kids prefer to play with the boxCan I help?0 -

I've bought all mine so I can walk slowly through the economically deprived estates and give them away as presents to the poor!:AYou're my wife now!!0 -

Hehe...I am guessing you weren't in the trenches during the great Teletubbies war of 1998. Whilst I was awarded a purple heart, I still get flashbacks.0 -
FWIW - these are in stock at Argos now and having just collected one it was in the 'Top Secret' box not the 'Warning' box. HTHsomething missing0
-
Which ones are worth more the TOP SECRET ones or the WARNING ones.0
-
TOP SECRET will be worth more when there is a supply of WARNING boxes0
-
But the problem is the Top Secret boxes will only have the potential to become collectors items AFTER Xmas, I suspect....I spelt my username wrongly on purpose, by the way!0
