Is it selling because it's a popular toy, or because people see some profit in reselling on eBay? There are people on this thread solely responsible for some shops being out of stock and, as has been said before, it's too early for most parents to start Xmas shopping.
Hopefully there will be a hype but current eBay prices show many people seling at a slight loss once fees are paid.

That, of course, is the $64,000 question. LIke my mother used to say (God bless her) 'It will all come out in the wash'. I'm holding on for as long as possible to see what comes out :D

I believe the "TOP SECRET" boxed version will become a collectors sought after product, never mind the kids! The Warning box will be over subscribed and not make much money... IMO

But if i was a kid and tested it out in a shop i would think it was good for a whole min then once i press it again and it did all that laughing again i would think god this toy is annoying.... i mean how can someone get excited about a toy what just laughs.... yeah if it did loads of tricks and talked loads i might buy it lol

I agree nice little present maybe for a child under 5 ...but its nothing special in my eyes

I'm taking a drastically wild guess that given Fisher Price have declared it is aimed at the pre-school age and has an 18m+ age warning on it....that maybe.....just possibly....there is the tiniest possibility that this is aimed at children under 5, and they'll find it amusing? You don't work in marketing do you?

P.S. if you're buying them inadvertantly for your teenagers or grandparents believeing they will be clamouring for them, maybe best to cancel your order

I know what you are saying, but the other side of the argument would be look how quickly it sells out WITHOUT any advertising etc. I also accept that Sesame Street and Elmo are NOT the big buzz here that they are in the States, but that's the really great thing about ebay...even someone working from home with a pc can now sell globally. Just a shame that Amazon US won't allow UK-based sellers unless you have a US checking account and US credit card as prices on there now start at $160! BAsed on the US RRP, that's a 300% mark up! Or is it 400%? Maths was never my strongest subject.

I think the point here is that we are coming from different angles here. I am a parent and am interested in buying my kids the things they want for Christmas - and am interested in this thread as it is quite possible that what they want will turn out to be one of the 'scarce' toys IN THE UK- and it is too early to tell for sure what that is at the moment - however, I personally doubt that this will be the TMX Elmo.

There are clearly others contributing here that are trying to identify the scarce toys (in the UK or US) in order to make a profit on them. Now, I have absolutely no problem with that - good luck to you. You might just make a profit on the TMX Elmo by selling in the US/worldwide.

eerrrmmmm, I had 8 uni students wanting to buy mine off me on Saturday when I showed him to them at work after collecting him from woolies :)

And I quite like him too :o

He's going to be one of those 'fun 5 minute' christmas pressies isn't he?

Whoever gets him will love him for xmas day, possibly even boxing day but by new years eve he'll be stuck in the corner never to be used again because his batteries have run out and no-one can be bothered to get new ones 'cos we all know what he does now:rolleyes:
Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...

I am reminded of how Felix Dennis (one time anarchist and now multi-millionaire head of Dennis Publishing) describes his one particular skill:

'I am very good at recognising what people want before they actually know what they want themselves'

If this DOES become the must-have toy at Christmas, and you haven't bought any in the run-up, I fear it will be too late to make any money on them. However, if it DOESN'T become the must-have toy at Xmas and you have bought several now, I think you wil probably make a £10 loss per item (let's face it, whilst this is gambling, it's not exactly like putting your money on the horses, as even if the gamble doesn't come of with this, you are still left with a product that has SOME value, as opposed to a betting slip that has no value).

They say fortune favours the brave. We'll see...:D

The cabbage patch dolls were also nothing special in my eyes. What we think matters not, though...

However, they were 'unique' in that they were the first toy with unique birth certificates etc. They may not have been attractive to adults, but dolls will always be popular with little girls - and rarely turn out to be 'irritating' after a few minutes.

I can't see that TMX Elmo is any different from those really annoying noise activated snowmen/santas that you will be REALLY sick of as soon as the shops start putting up their decorations etc. - which will probably be any day now! Who has ever bought one of those and thought that they were still cute after the first 24 hours?

Your view on this toy seems to change like the wind. :D

To answer your question, unlikely. Top Secret packaging was only placed on the intial batch from the Fisher Price factory, if what we are led to believe is true. As soon as I found out about this, I increased my holding from 2 to 7, all with Top Secret packaging. With cashback and Wollies discount they cost me on average a shade over £30 each. I'm happy to hold onto these for as long as possible...
