Gina Sirard, vice president of marketing for the East Aurora, N.Y.-based Fisher-Price, a division of Mattel Inc., would not reveal how many T.M.X. Elmos have been manufactured. But yesterday she urged Elmo fans to be patient.
"We have goods in our warehouses, and we're going to continue to ship right through to Christmas," Sirard said.
So, from reading this what do you see?
From what I read it seems that there is an unknown quantity of these already made and sitting in the warehouse and they will be shipped out in stages for some reason. Is it really Ebay sellers that have created a shortage or someone with an unknown quantity sitting in a warehouse watching the orders flood in
Why would they hang on to them? I do not suppose it would be to create what appears to be a shortage when infact their is none would it?

I think the next shipment of these will be crucial. IIRC, Fishers-Prices's own online US shop is quoting a next shipment date of 8/12/06, which is pretty close to Xmas. If we have a HUGE load swamping the stores, game is up. If we don't, and they sell out as quickly as the first lot did, game is ON. I *do* have a suspicion that F-S are playing the hype card at the moment, but who knows?
PS I think US ebay prices are meaningless at the moment due to the sheer huge numbers on there. Ebay UK seems to be the one where the profit is at the moment.I spelt my username wrongly on purpose, by the way!0
