in Credit cards
Hi all .
Just joined today . I have an issue with Argos and wondered if anyone would be able to help me out .
I applied for an Argos card back in Febuary and was accepted . I purchased a product on the card for £299 on a buy now pay 6 months agreement .
I cleared the account by June and decided to close to account as i felt i was no longer going to need the card .
Low and behold last month i was thinking of asking my girlfriend to marry me and needed a ring . I knew that Argos do a buy now pay later 12 month deal if you spend over a certain amount (the ring was more than that amount !!!) So i explained the above details to the cashier and she said it would not be an issue applying for a card again .
I applied but was then told it would take 7 to 10 days for an answer (strange , before i was told right there and then) . She did not explain that first  . So i then had to make a choice (i was going to ask my girlfriend that day , so i needed that ring) I decided to use my credit card as a last resort but left the store feeling slightly mislead .
I asked my girlfriend that day and she said YES !!!
. A few days later i received a letter from Argos saying that i had been declined for a card . I was extremely annoyed but decided to let it pass as people get refused credit all the time . Then a couple of days later , i received a letter from Argos again regarding my PREVIOUS card saying that there would be changes to my account !
Alarm bells started to ring . My previous account was not closed at all , and thats why they had refused me . VERY VERY ANNOYING . When i phoned Argos , it takes about 5 attempts to get through to them , and then you are on hold for at least 10 minutes before they decide to answer  . I explained the abouve situation to them over the phone but they did not seem interested in anyway . In fact the way the woman spoke to me on the phone was pretty disgraceful .
She told me that my previous account WAS closed and said that the letters are printed a month in advance ! (even though the account was closed more than a month ago ?!?!?!) But would not tell me why i had been declined .
I am quite annoyed with the Argos customer service .
The main things i wanted to ask are : will the 'declined' descision affect my credit rating ? Has anyone else experienced this with Argos ? And is it worth my while complaining to them regarding this ?
Sorry for the long story but i had to let you all know
Any help would be greatly appreciated .
Many Thanks

If you read the post star-fire, he did buy the ring from Argos with his credit card in the end!
Argos are a bloody nightmare to deal with. You're better off not having the card IMO. The decline shouldn't affect your credit rating as it'll only be showing as a search by Argos. So long as you haven't got too many recent searches on your file, you should be OK.0
