  • I keep all my dried fruit, seeds, nuts etc in those plastic Chinese take-away containers.
They are also useful for storing nails etc and for freezing.
They don't last forever - but what better excuse do I need to get another take-away :j (and, actually, they do last quite some time)

I have mounted an old towel rack above the bathroom door to store spare loo paper on,
Have old jam jars that I store table confetti in
Old jam jars in the garden, painted with glass pain as candle holders
A jar that a bottle of vodka came in is now the bird seed holder
If I have a party , i cut old coke cans in half for pretty ash trays

was looking back for this thread for something, but i love the idea of the towel rack for loo rolls.

I think thats a good idea for storing reels of ribbon for crafts/wrapping etc too.

  • I use an old shoe box that I have had for years for all my photos.
An old video cassette storage box for all the APS photo cartridges should I need them again (the cartridge number is written on back or relevant photos).
I do the spaghetti in the whisky tube thing too.
Rice and pasta in old ice cream/margarine tubs.
I have a lovely box in the bathroom that came with Next toiletries as a gift a few years ago that gets used for my hair bobbles and kirby grips (the ones from hairdressers that they used when I need hair up for a special occasion).
Another zip closed toiletry hamper set for all my "wimminz bitz" as dad calls them (just so they dont fall out when folk go noseying about!).
I bought 2 sets of the shoe storage boxes from Argos ages ago (6 for a tenner and you can fit a couple of pairs in each depending on shoe type) and now I dont have as many shoes for the boxes I use some of them for my craft bits n pieces along with a sturdy used gift bag.

A heatsink removed from a PC to hold busines cards and vouchers. Wine bottle cases to store photos etc under the bed. Single bottle wine box for kitchen Knives (just thought of that!) Salt lick, plastic box with hinged lid (from the farm) to store work gloves (which I find on the road, eventually end up with a pair!)
PS; anyone know about `voluntary simplicity`?
  • I use a washing up sponge holder - like a corny thingy - don't know what it's called lol for storing all my bits and bobs on my comp desk!

I've got a wooden box that I got smellies in last christmas, that I keep all my other computer table junk in!

Oh, and I use a brown tape roll for keeping my pens in - I'm stuffed though when I actually need the tape as the pens go everywhere :rotfl:

a heatsink is what it sounds like... removes heat. Y'see, the processor part of your puter, the part that does all the donkeywork, gets terribly hot and the heat sink helps to remove that heat. A fairly crucial job, as the processor would last about 3 seconds before it burnt out otherwise. [and OH is sitting here reading over my shoulder terribly impressed that i actually *knew* this, but i did pick some stuff up from watching him root around in the depths of our PC!]

from what the OP said, i'd imagine he's using a heatsink rather like this one.

I keep all my bits of pieces of ribbon wound round a cardboard tube [I pin them in place to stop them unravelling]
