Scrapyards around here are disapearing at an alarming rate, new cars being more reliable and cheaper to swap than fix I guess. Seem to spring back to life as housing developements.

Scrap metal dealers are the same, it's all done on a massive scale and exported. I had a couple sacks of copper and lead from a rebuild job to sell, tried 6 or 7 sites I knew until I found one still operating, sign of change I suppose. ;)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

I think in Fife (Inverkeithing perhaps?) theres a company that "sells" you 7 or 8 hours to remove anything you can take off a car as well.

    That's U-Pull-It (oo-er;))

I have got cheap parts on eBay that are second hand.

Most recently a complete set of electric wings mirrors with original intact mirror glass for my Mondeo, had them for £5 the pair with £8 delivery!

Scrapeyard wanted £45 for just one mirror !!

had a busy day today, early rise (well for a non working saturday) went to autoparts place in coatbridge, robbing ba****ds! £40 for a regulator and need to take it off myself! (could get one on ebay delivered for £28.)
tried fallons just round the corner, had no hondas.
went to birnams on blantyre farm road, didn't have my model but he was the best scrappy ive ever met, very helpful, corteous and pleasant, all of these qualities are usually lacking in the scrap trade,i would recommend this guy.

ended up heading to stirling, i had been in touch with a guy who has one and is breaking it for spares,i was heading that way for a call out at work anyway so it made sense. £30 for a regulator and some trim parts.bargain.

now i just need my offer on 2 part worns on ebay to be accepted and were almost finished. just needs a small weld to the n/s wing and a good clean out inside and a good wash and polish.

oh and thanks for everyones suggestions,at least i know theres still some scrappys still out there, all be it a bit more expensive than they used to be.

I used to love visiting the scrappys. Sadly those days are gone down here. Some places were like an Alladin's cave, I used to keep cars running for a year on £50, including a full set of tyres, wipers and bulbs.
    I miss those days.

it was great when i was young and went with my dad. i used to come out with pockets full of fuses and bulbs. i would get a row for stealing but funnily enough my dad never took anything back they all ended up in the shed.

  • I remember when my wife was pregnant with our first child and I was working on a Sunday. My parents took her a run round the scrappies in the borders whilst looking for bluebird spares just to get out for the day.
My worst experience as a child was driving to one just to be told we were leaving the car and had to walk home again.
