Gibralter why could I not make calls?

I spent some time in Gib and Spain this month and although I could receive txts and send them I couldn't make any calls in Gib, my PAYGO phone worked perfectly once I went into Spain but it wouldn't allow me to make calls in Gib.. anyone know why? as I may be going back at some point..

It could be something to do with Gibraltar's standing within the EU (or not). A few weeks back someone had an issue with Orange where their roaming charges hadn't been capped when they should've been. Orange were trying to say that Gib isn't part of the EU when it is.

Had the same problem! We were over for a wedding, staying in Spain but wedding in Gibraltar. Everytime we were in gibraltar we couldn't contact anyone by mobile! Daughter rang her network and they said it was because she hadn't stipulated Gibraltar as well as Spain, seems just saying Europe doesn't cover it!
It was a real pain in the whatsit!!!

Of course the bad relationship between Spain and Gibraltar doesn't help as your phone changes networks every time you cross the border and neither are compatible with the other!!!

What a total pain!!!! Thats rediculous don't you think as Gib is in Europe... I don't understand why texting worked though!! I'll have to sort it out before I go again... thanks

As above Gib is in the eu. Its the ONLY colony island thats a member (not in its own right but as part if the uk).

Phone companies are talking utter rubbish. You only have to look at Gibraltars official website...... or on direct gov, or any other website.

BTW Gibraltar is NOT an island!

I just flew back from there today, I am with O2 and my phone worked fine in both Spain and Gib.
