Hi all... this thread looks amazing... can't believe how helpful people here are! Just wondered if you think the following is at all realistic...
1) Flying from any London airport or Birmingham, Norwich, Midlands etc. Stansted is our nearest though (we live near Cambridge)!
2) 2 weeks
3) leaving UK between 1st - 14th August but as near as possible to 10th August 2007
4) night flights OK but day better!
5) 2 adults
6) would consider any board but would love all inclusive if that's possible
7) This is probably far too much to ask for but here goes.... somewhere warm and sunny but not toooooo hot e.g. temperatures in the 75-85 F range. Would prefer somewhere not likely to be over-run with screaming children (yes I know it's the school holidays but I'm a teacher and need a break from them :rotfl: ). Would ideally like somewhere pretty, not too overly touristy or high rise, NOT into English pubs abroad or karioke etc:rotfl: Somewhere very clean and comfortable where we could really relax and unwind (both in our late 40s in very stressful jobs). Preferably near lake or sea... views are important.
8-A bit unsure about going to Turkey just because I have heard a few bad reports but if it came with a personal recommendation we would consider it. I definitely wouldn't go anywhere highly developed, crowded, noisey, unsafe or dirty.
9- Would love it to be a bit romantic for a couple celebrating 26 years of marriage and only 2nd proper holiday without children!Like places where the English feel warmly welcomed (i.e. not Paris :rotfl:). Like mixing with other cultures, eating local foods, etc in a relaxed atmosphere. Italy is very appealing (although so far have only been to Venice and Sardinia) so don't know anything about the mainland but I like the laid back attitude. Would also love to go further than Europe if cost would allow.
10- would love somewhere with a pool and/or near the sea... ideally would love to have sea views and be able to have direct access to a beautiful beach but not sure if that's possible with our budget! We could book it immediately and will keep watching this thread today (Saturday) and tomorrow to see if any of you have come up with any brilliant ideas.
11-Max. budget £1500 for both of us together. Is that completely unrealistic?“A journey is best measured in friends, not in miles.”

thats a good budget i would say. i'm not one of the "resident" experts here, but have you considered the red sea, egypt? ive stayed at the marriott twice and its a good "unwind" place, but you can also opt into tours if you feel so inclined. the company ive travelled with has been http://www.peltours.com/ (although https://www.lastminute.com have holidays to the red sea - even cruises down the nile - which im looking at - now THATS an unwinding holiday!)and ive not had a problem with them. all the best of luck.

I just looked at the Peltours site Gandulf so kindly posted and they say that summer months on the coast are max 30C (which is 86F) just a little hotter than I'd ideally like (my range was about 70-85F). Is the temperature quoted very different from your experience Sloppy? They reckon the Red Sea area is cooler than Southern Egypt but I've never been!“A journey is best measured in friends, not in miles.”

I have never actually been but from what i have read and other peoples info it can get up into the 40Cs in July and August.Far to hot for me,i love the sun but like to be able to breathe in it and feel comfortable not hot and sweaty all day.
I was going to suggest Tunisia but im not sure of weather temps in August as i have only been in April/May time.
Is there anywhere you would prefer/not prefer to go to?"Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."0 -

Also, I'm in Cornwall, and the whole "getting to the airport, parking etc etc" always adds another 100 quid to the holiday generally. Any ideas as to cheap Cornwall returns (plane, coach, train) to tie into the departure date would be appreciated - but it's totally secondary as far as my actual request is concerned)
Thanks
Have you read Martin's tips for getting the cheapest train fare Gandulf... it's a long and slightly complicated procedure but might help! Just click on the 'travel and transport' link and go from there. Martin says there he's in the process of getting an expert to devlop a search engine that will make finding the cheapest fare easier but the whole rail system is such a mess it is taking a long time to do! I find it amazing (not to say immoral in the light of environmental issues) that we can travel by plane so much more cheaply and easily than train!“A journey is best measured in friends, not in miles.”
