  • Been having a think ...

and as this is our honeymoon (and first holiday together!) we would still like a bit of luxury with spa treatments etc but the excitement of going abroad is enough for us so don't want to break the bank and want to make sure near beach so we are thinking of maybe going with the 4 star Hotel Tej Marhaba but through eclipsedirect.com that saveapenny recommended = £490 or should I take the quote in to First Direct and try haggling?

but am very tempted by these that sloppychops suggested:

    The £277.96 flights with thomsonfly
Return transfers by coach £30 (bookable with your Thomson flights)

Melia Flora Park 4 stars,Hammamet Yasmine half board £83.53 Total £391.49 - absolute bargain!!

Vincci Taj Sultan 5 stars,Hammamet Yasmine full board £132.66 Total £440.62 - can't believe can get full board 5 star hotel for this price with sea views too!

I noticed that the transfers that thomsonfly does are to Hammamet. Would this cover Hammamet Yasmine? Do they take directly to hotel? I'm going to try to book this time off on Monday. Should we book the flights then and then find what hotels are still available and maybe consider the other resorts that the airline does transfers to if they are not? Sorry - I'm a total novice!
  • Hi,

Looking for a holiday for 2 adults and 2 children (4 and 7), flying from preferably Birmingham or faling that London Heathrow on the 20th dec, returning 30th dec although could return on the 31st of dec or 1st jan if we really have to. looking for somewhere in the far east, ideally multi centre eg Thailand, Hong kong, Singapore etc. Would also consider Cuba and Mexico. If it gets really desperate would go to Dubai but been there twice already. Looking for flight only and flight and accommodation costs, 3-4 star room only or b+b.

    Thanks.

I have found the reviews for all the hotels you like
    http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g295401-d317016-Reviews-Tej_Marhaba_Hotel-Sousse.html

    http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g297943-d305549-Reviews-Vincci_Taj_Sultan-Hammamet.html

a very mixed bag of reviews ...Please dont expect 5* as we know it. in Tunisia the hotel gets 1 star just for being on the beach
5* out there I would class an average 4*

Transfers by Thomsons are usualy to a central point. The booking system shuts at midnight so I will have a look tomorrow and let you know where.

I would always book the flight first

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g297943-d614058-Reviews-Residence_Diar_Lemdina-Hammamet.html this one that sloppy found looks very nice

You can take the quote into the holiday hypermarket if you have one close they will price match eclipse's holidays + then you have the transfer direct to the hotel

Make sure you do your research on the hotels through tripadvisor and holiday truths

Maybe if you could strech your budget to around the 750 mark you could get 5*AI in Egypt

Kiroseiz Three Corners Resort and Beach Bungalows

The splendid five stars Kiroseiz Three Corners Resort is just a few minutes away from Naama Bay, the highlight of Sharm El Sheikh. Once you drive through the grandiose gates of the resort, you will find yourself entering a domain designed to exist in perfect harmony with the purity of mountains and desert landscapes. The Kiroseiz Three Corners Beach Bungalows are a completely separate part of the resort, located in the area of Hadaba on the private sandy beach of the Kiroseiz Three Corners Resort (15 min. by hotel-run shuttle bus).

Might be able to shave some off that by shopping around

I am still thinking the weather wont be too good in Tunisia and if you liek the beach there is nothing worse than looking at a lovley beach and its too cold to use it

The quote for the transfer i gave you was to Hammamet Yasmine,so as Saveapenny has said this will drop you off in a central area of Hammamet Yasmine. If need be jump in a taxi and it shouldnt cost you more than a couple of pounds direct to your hotel.(then again it could be very close to where you are dropped off.
Agreed with Saveapenny as well about the weather its very mixed in November and if your expecting a really hot beach holiday then i dont think Tunisia in Nov is for you.
Better option altogether is definetly Egypt.

You can check on this website what the temps were for previous years at the time you might be going.

  • Hi,

I'm new to this forum and think I might have got wrong end of the stick - are you only able to provide quotes/advice on package hols? If so then I've posted in the wrong place (sorry). Is there a thread for people looking for flights only? I've tried following the tips on the MSE flights pages but still no joy getting flights. I'm at a stage where I could really do with some friendly advice from someone within or with an intimate knowledge of the air travel industry!

    Thanks. :)

  • Hi saveapenny,

    flights only for two adults
    London - Caracas
    Out: Dec 13-17
    Ret: Jan 4-7
    Budget £600 per person
Prefer not to travel via USA as one of us would have to pay for a visa.

I've seen lots of Expedia special deals for c.£450 per person (Air France) but whenever I try to book these fares online the booking fails. I've called expedia and they say that the flights show availability but for some reason still can't book.

The next cheapest I've found is about £700 per person with either TAP or Delta.

Really starting to worry that we won't be able to go home for Christmas!

Any advice would be most appreciated. Thanks.
