Help the guy or butt out.
sometimes responses have to be a 'wee' bit over the top to get the message over,
he came in for a moan,he got answers, and because they were not what he wanted to hear he kept disputing things,
we have all tried to help the guy BUT he does not want our type of 'real life' help
I notice your post about 'pants down' was REALLY helpfull,so as you say help or butt outI

i did 1 and 2 and so charged for that !
i got big bike , screen i bought cost me 100 pounds too and although i am handy with thee things i regret i didnt pay the garage to fit as i broke it

This really boils my p*** when people think mechanics can do everything in double-quick time, from a casual glance from an "outsider."
Had this recently, an aquaitance said she wanted her car lowered (Peugeot 206) and much? I said £100 if you supply the springs, the reply was "oh, the garage down the road said they'd do it for £20"
"Better take it to them then...."
Sheepish phone call three days later, "can you come and do it, the other garage can't fit me in...."
"No, sorry".
Grrr...

£20 ??? How so cheap, were they just going to grind some of her springs off ??? (or just let down her tyres?)“Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?”

No the other garage certainly didn't quote her £20, infact they have the highest labour rate within about a 30 mile radius...........davemorton wrote: »£20 ??? How so cheap, were they just going to grind some of her springs off ??? (or just let down her tyres?)
She was just thinking I was "born yesterday" and would fall for that..... I told her to do it herself, and see if it's worth £100.
She hasn't spoken to me since, and her car is still at it's normal ride-height a month later....

Garages don't generally deem it appropriate to charge customers for finding a part.. They make their money in the cost/sale of the part, not in the finding of it.
Off topic but this is also why labour rates are so high when garages are doing insurance work. They jack the rates up to compensate for the fact that the insurance company is a pain in the backside to deal with, massively overcomplicates and delays simple jobs, then leaves it until the last possible day to actually pay up.
At least that's the case with the bodyshop I use.0 -

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
