Wondering if anyone can help . DD1 - age 10, very able reader - reading age 13+. Can anyone please recommend any fiction books for her? She always has nose in harry potter - but I am wanting to get her something different, more of an advanced read, but avoiding teenage romance/sci-fi/stuff with swearing etc. Any body able to give advice of titles to watch out for?

Just got my 12year old 10 my story books from bookpeople. Usually £4.99 each (I think) but I got 10 for £10. They are history stories and seem quite good. She loves them0

Hi, how about the Phillip Pullman series, (Dark Materials), Northern Lights, Subtle Knife, Amber Spyglass really excellent.
Gerald Durrell, my family and other animals, Terry Pratchett, any, all funny, Meg Cabot, really good for teenage girls, Princess Diaries and others that she has written. Erm if I think of any more I'll pop them on here. CheersDFW Nerd 267. DEBT FREE 11.06.08

Theres a 5 part series of books by Debi Gliori called the Pure Dead series- about a magical family with a pet crocodile (Tock), Spider (Tarantella), rats (Multitudina and Terminus), Gryffon (Saab), Dragons (Ffup, Nestor) and a yeti called Knot. I'd recommend them to anyone, they are based for the younger readers (13+) but i've read every one and think that they're fantastic! You can pick the first 4 up really cheaply on ebay, the fifth came out last week. http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/g/debi-gliori/"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it may be necessary from time to time to give a stupid or misinformed beholder a black eye."...Miss piggy0

Don't know if it would be too old fashioned now, but I loved Anne Of Green Gables.
My 10 year old DD is enjoying Journey To The River Sea by Eva Ibbotson at the moment0 -
The Mallorie Blackman books are really good, and are managing to steer my daughter away from Jacqueline Wilson!0
