I already have sky+ HD and 1 multiroom
I want to install another multiroom - can I have sky do a standard multiroom installation £60 + £10pm and then change the standard box to a sky+ box myself? Is it difficult?
Thanks in advance

It is simple but you have two problems. First the standard install will only be 1 feed and a sky+ or HD needs two feeds to work correctly. Now seen he's doing the work already, for the price of a drink and some tea and biscuits im sure the installer would run a 2nd feed and leave it unconnected for you so you could plug it into your new box later. However (here's the 2nd problem) you are already using a minimum of 3 ports on your (presumably) quad LNB. Another 2 feeds would mean it would need to be changed for a octo LNB and im not sure installers carry them as standard.0

Thanks for reply
We don't wish to go down the route of another sky plus HD box (£199!!) so not quite sure what to do. Sky have only offered that or the standard box.
Would we be able to have a new sky contract under son's name but at same address?
How easy to get octo LNB fitted?0 -
I dont think sky allow 2 accounts at the same address.
What you could do is source a 2nd hand sky+ box from ebay. There are a few around now people are upgrading to hd.
I also suggest that you get an octo lnb off ebay as well. Its not difficult to fit but your dish may need slightly realigned due to the additional weight. Ask the engineer to fit it while he's installing the multiroom. Again, although this work is not part of the multiroom install, most will do it for a nice tip.0 -
I installed multiroom a few months ago and had the same dilemma, Sky sent out their standard box and the installation guy was happy to run two feeds for me just to change the box over to my old Sky+ box for nothing more than a cuppa and a biscuit. Trust me they will do it as long as your nice and have a chat with them, it'snot really any extra work for them.
However that may not help if Pokerlad has highlighted your LNB being at maxiumum capacity0 -
It is quite easy to swap the LNB. If I can do it, anyone can. (Female pensioner)I also suggest that you get an octo lnb off ebay as well. Its not difficult to fit but your dish may need slightly realigned due to the additional weight.
Only thing I didn't like, was climbing quite high up a ladder to do it.
No choice though, as hubby is scared of heights. :eek:0 -
Thanks everyone - a great help0
