I noticed earlier that the detail in the authentication tab in the properties for my network is all greyed out.

Help and support in windows says the following, but I am unable to...
On the Authentication tab, make sure that the Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network check box is selected.
In EAP type, choose the Extensible Authentication Protocol type to use with this connection.
If you choose Smart Card or other Certificate in EAP type, you can configure additional properties. Click Properties and, in Smart Card or other Certificate Properties, do the following:
To use your smart card certificate for authentication, click Use my smart card.
To use the certificate in your computer's certificate store for authentication, click Use a certificate on this computer.
To verify that the server certificate presented to your computer is still valid, select the Validate server certificate check box, specify whether to connect only if the server resides within a particular domain, and then specify the trusted root certification authority.
If the user name in the smart card or certificate is not the same as the user name for the domain to which you are logging on, select the Use a different user name for the connection check box.
To specify whether the computer should attempt authentication to the network if a user is not logged on, or if the computer or user information is not available, do one of the following:
To specify that the computer should attempt authentication to the network if a user is not logged on, select the Authenticate as computer when computer information is available check box.
To specify that the computer should attempt authentication to the network if the user information or computer information is not available, select the Authenticate as guest when user or computer information is unavailable check box.

    because it cannot be amended
  • It looks like you have changed your router ip address from the default, how did you set this up in the first place, have you ever been into the router config screen? Can you get into it using a wired connection (bearing in mind the new IP address appears to be 192.168.0.2 instead of 0.1 (the default)

The wireless ipconfig should look like this:

    Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Atheros Wireless Network Adapter
    Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-16-E3-35-03-25
    Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes
    Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes
    IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.2
    Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1
    DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1
    DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1

    DHCP isn't enabled currently..

I'd be tempted to hit the button on the back of the router and start again, wire it up, do an ipconfig /release, then ipconfig /renew, then goto 192.168.0.1

Yeah i did, I am really at a loss as to what i can try next. The only thing I know that is wrong is that the Authentication tab is still greyed out and I cannot change the setting in it.

Disconnect your ethernet cable, double click the LAN icon in the system tray and click configure.
Is the network card enabled and working properly?

If so, connect up and try to access 192.168.0.1
