HELP would be nice about orange

hi,
can anyone suggest what i should do? I received a mms message from a number i did not recognize

a picture of my 7 month old daughter playing in my front room on the floor i thought at the time someone had met up with my partner and sent a picture as a joke to make me ask who it was then i find out this person said they didn't know me and sent nothing asking who i was

at this point i started to worry for my family thinking someone was in my house and God knows after finally believing everything was ok at home my partner said she sent it from her phone which after checking outbox and time picture was taken it was from her phone and her number should have come up on my phone.

i phoned orange to ask how and why and if this is possible they said its very rare and tried to play it down as if its not that big of a problem (they are looking into it) they did say the number i have received the picture from should have been my partners phone and not this other number as that number had not sent any mms messages

phoned orange today as not heard back from them for a while and they have done nothing i asked for some kind of compensation for the upset it has caused for there mistake or if i can cancel my contract with them she asked me on what grounds do i want to cancel my contract for i have to state what paragraph and number is there any way i can do this?

Has anyone ever had this problem before? and is there a clause to break my contract?

any help gladly appreciated

They have done nothing to warrant releasing you from the contract.

The issue as I understand it is that you received an MMS from a number that you didn't recognise? This could well be a network service number for all you know?

You contract will be for the provision of a voice only service, so anything surrounding data or multimedia services, whether they work or not would be unlikely to cause a breach of contract.

What compensation do you feel you are owed - and for what?

Why should orange compensate you? What did they do that you feel requires compensation?

There are plenty of apps that allow people to send SMS or MMS messages with fake numbers, it's no-ones fault but the person who sent you the mms, and if it's in your front room it must be from someone who was in your front room.

Ask your family members for compensation, if you feel you need compensating...

  • i have contacted the number that supposedly sent the picture and they do not know me or my family he has a payg phone with orange it is not a service number and this person was not in my house

Orange have confirmed that the number that came up with on my phone that sent the picture was not the person who sent it

Its because when you send an MMS it doesnt use the mobile number to send, instead the mobile number is attached to an IP address, the IP address is then used to deliver the MMS, sometimes the association between the mobile number and IP address does not uncouple, so you will receieve an MMS that looks like it came from a random number, there is no chance that the MMS could be sent to the wrong number, but I could see why it would cause concern, hope my explanation makes sense, Orange are investigating it as a matter of high priority

I can understand why you're concerned but why on earth do you want compensation? Sorry but this is a real bug bear of mine, people who want compensation when it's completely irrelevant. How much would you expect?
