Have you got a 3 or 4? If 4, you'll need to get a new sim. Morrisons have a Samsung something or other for a tenner at the moment. Imagine that Tesco will have something similar.
  • To be honest, your best bet is to buy a really cheap phone from Carphone Warehouse. Unless the phone is for a specific network (such as T-mobile's Pulse) they are sim free. This is so that they don't have to stock loads of handsets for each network - they just pick the next one off the shelf and give you the appropriate sim.

I'd go in to the store and explain to them what you're after rather than buying off the internet. That way, you can try your sim in the phone before you buy it.

  • Anybody know if the phones in tesco and asda are unlocked?

I see most of them are advertised as "xyz network" nokia 9999 etc.

Most retailers sell locked phones. Carphone warehouse is the only retailer I know in which you can rely on getting an unlocked phone. Earlier this month they had phones from £3.95.

I bought my son a £13.95 phone in CPW on Saturday and that included a £10 SIM with Virgin, but the phone was unlocked and took his o2 SIM no problem. T'was an LG if memory serves.
