DO you mean paypal dispute as I thought you said he ahd started a paypal dispute?
If you do mean paypal then ...
If you win the 'held funds' becoame available to you again (and you can withdraw them)
If you lose the money is taken from your paypal balance and given back to the buyer0 -

If I had asked for cash on collection as mentioned by others he wouldnt have handed the money over anyway. Also how am I going to bill him for the pane of glass that he broke?
Thanks x
If he asks if he can still buy it if it's now dismantled, tell him to get on his bike. Buyers like that aren't worth the hassle.
If you have a local gumtree greenhouses tend to go fast on there, & no fees.0 -
At the point you asked them to leave, they were trespassing and you could have belled the bizzies and said women and children were feeling threatened to get an immediate response.0

Maybe it's just me, but I would not want to have strangers working in my garden.
If anything happened to them, they may be able to sue (e.g. fell over or hurt themselves using tools you lend them?). No jocking! I believe that you are responsible for their health and safety while they are in your property.
I think you took a big risk here.0 -
I'd add a note on the dispute saying that the greenhouse is now dismantled and redy for collection. Give them a few days.
Dont just price up the piece of glass - remember the fuel you will use in buying it, maybe 30 minutes away from work too, wear and tear on your car... Then do a partial refund, less this amount0 -

No its definitely thru ebay, have looked at my paypal account - funds have transferred into my bank account already and no sign of a dispute there. If i did refund him will paypal reimburse the fee that they charged me for using them in the first place?
Thanks for all replies, really appreciated x0 -

Sorry my mistake - I thought you were talking about a paypal dispute....
Ebay disputes are relatively new (well new to me as I have only ever had one...LOL) but my understanding is (and I am sure I will be corrected if wrong)
you have 10 days to put things right with the buyer - if you refund at this stage you automatically get you FVF back. If you can not agree then after 10 days ebay get to make the decision. If they decide in your favour then nothing will happen. If they decide in the buyers then they will 'recover' the funds from you....there seems to be differing reports on how they actually do this. I think they can do it by debiting your registered debit/credit card or by taking the money from paypal...who in turn will take it from your card/bank account if not enough funds available.....although I have also seen reports of it being added to your ebay fee's. Presumably if you lose the dispute they will tell you what is going to happen!!!0 -

They do it by debiting your Paypal account. Legally they cannot take money from your debit card without your agreement.
It's also a myth that paypal can take money from your linked bank account or credit card as you haven't authorised them to do this. If you owe money they put you into a negative balance. If you don't pay they close your account and send debt collectors after you.
There is quite a bit of Paranoia and misinformation about what paypal can do with your linked bank account all they can do is take the direct debits when you buy things (as agreed). If they do more than this you are protected by the direct debit guarantee.0 -

Cyberbob....
If ebay take my fees out my paypal account and there is not enough money in it then it comes off my credit card....would this not happen if they tried to take funds from my paypal in the event of losing an ebay dispute? I am not sure how paypal would know the difference?0 -

That's because you have set your fees up to do this when you select payment methods. There is a post on the community boards about this at the moment. A seller was told by PP customer services to leave £5000 in their PP account for fees (so called to make it easier) The seller though had auto payments set up to take money from there bank account so PP bypassed the paypal balance and took directly from the bank account causing the seller to be overdrawn/
Any company be it paypal or anyone else can only take payments you agree toPaypal wrote:c. Reimbursement for Your Liability. In the event you are liable for any amounts owed to PayPal, PayPal may immediately remove such amounts from your Balance (if available). If there are insufficient funds in your Balance to cover your liability, PayPal reserves the right to collect your debt to PayPal by using any payments received in your Account and otherwise you agree to reimburse PayPal through other means. PayPal may also recover amounts you owe us through legal means, including, without limitation, through the use of a debt collection agency.
Also if you remember before full buyer protection was available off ebay (It changed earlier this year) it used to be possible for sellers to remove all funds to their bank accounts to stop any disputes being refunded. This would not have been possible if PP had direct access to your bank account.0
