T Mobile -- Any way of ending contract.
Hi I would be ever so grateful if someone could help.
DD2 is going travelling -- as they do!
She phoned her mobile company - T mobile yesterday and they are saying she is tied to her contract until next June.
This is a renewal of her original contract and this renewal was organised over the phone.
The only options she was given was to keep up the payments at £30 a month or find someone else to take over the contract( Highly unlikely as they all have their own contracts) She will not be taking her phone travelling because of the cost involved of making calls from abroad.
Has anyone got any experience of any way of getting around this.
Would be ever so grateful of any advice

You have not said when the renewal was done. If its over 14 days (I think), you can't back out of it.
Guessing that if its ending in June 2011, it must have been renewed June 2010 or before - so sounds like you cannot cancel the contract.0 -
Thanks for that I am really grateful. I wonder if anyone else has any ideas-- Is there anyway you can appeal to their better natures?
The renewal is certainly over 14 days but not exactly sure when --- months rather than daysTry and do a good deed every day.0 -
She agreed to the T&C its legally binding.Their is no way she can get out of it ,apart from transferring to a 3rd party or buying her way out of it.0

I see by your end of message signature that you seem to be a compassionate, warm sort of person who probably sees the world through cozy eyes/.
You haven't seen the signatures of the Mobile Service providers then or you wouldn't ask questions like " Is there anyway you can appeal to their better natures?"
They are business people who expect people to honour their contracts. I expect they gave her a "free" shiny new phone when she upgraded.
Next time, make sure you and your family go 30-day sim so they can change their lifestyles and travel plans without being tied to a contract.
Have you asked them for a sabbatical for her when she is away? Don't hold your breath but worth a go.0 -
Thanks Guys Dad for taking the time to reply -- I actually use Tesco Pay as You Go .I Pay by Direct Debit so get £30's worth of credit for £9. I have never had nor never want a contract on a phone. A simple Nokia does me!
Thanks for that idea of a sabbatical-- Sounds like that is definitely worth a try!Try and do a good deed every day.0 -

Well DD2 rang T Mobile again and after initial resistance she has managed to get them to reduce the monthly cost to £5 instead of £30 -- So customer service and good sense has prevailed and that credit will be waiting for her on her return.
So thumbs up to DD2 for sorting it herself, Thankd to you for your comments and thumbs up to us parents for not getting on our sometimes very high horse and criticising her organisational skills. Words could hang heavy in the air when she is so close to her departure dateTry and do a good deed every day.0
