Ok, my AA renewal is £149 (roadside relay + one other person). The same services as a new customer is £89.99. Seriously, what a rip.
Firstly, do you think it'll be ok to cancel my current membership and simply become a new member?
Secondly, I've a question about quidco. I haven't used it before so dont want to go ahead until I know exactly what I'll get back.
They have the following offer:

no, you are missing nothing, could take a few months till you get it, mine went into my bank at the end of July. Remember to put your bank details into your Quidco accountNo longer posting on freebies or comps0 - £42

Yes that's correct i've done that before with the AA.
BUT... they are very slow on paying out (as I have found out twice), and there is no guaranteed that the cashback website will pay out.
Have you thought about Auto Aid or Auto National (same company as Auto Aid but no pay & reclaim)?
How much is Auto Aid for the equivalent of roadside relay + one other named person on my policy? Can't seem to get a quote online. I don't want the basic cover because that's useless if I breakdown 50 miles from home, for example.
The thing is, I'm going to get it anyway so it's probably worth taking the risk.
crazyterrier2000 - When did you purchase it? How many months before July?0 -
Just one thing though. I rang the AA for a quote for joint membership for my car and my husbands transit van and it actually came out cheaper than using any cashback sites online. If I were you, I would ring AA and say you want to leave because you saw new members get such a better deal. You will probably find they offer you that too.
(they take about 3 months for cash back to come through)0 -
Do you shop at Tesco? They do RAC cover under their rewards scheme.

As long as it comes through, that's fine.
I doubt they'll knock it down from the £149 renewal price to £47.99 (89.99 less the £42 cashback) though.
Occasionally, but have nowhere near enough points to get any sort of cover for £47.99.Do you shop at Tesco? They do RAC cover under their rewards scheme.

As I am already an AA Breakdown cover customer, do you think applying for a new membership, and then cancelling the old one, will disqualify me from the £42 cashback offer?0

I found Green Flag was the cheapest through Quidco.
Can't remember the costs as it was a few months ago, but have a look. The cashback came through quickly and Green Flag are a good company, I called them out twice in one day! They use local garages, so never take long to reach you.
I've always found AA one of the most expensive.0 -

Auto aid is £37 for a single person or married/civil partnerhsip couple.
So if you're not officially hitched, for two it's £74.
Here's the quote
http://www.autoaidbreakdown.co.uk/index.php
It's £37 for everyone (and their legal spouse).
They don't do basic cover.
It's roadside, recovery, at home and onward travel.
It's pay & claim.
So you have to pay and claim back.
It's like an insurance policy and they use local garages. It doesn't have it's own fleet like AA/RAC.
Anecdotes of service and getting quick payments are good.
It's obiviously doesn't work out so well if your not legallt married or in a civil partnership.0 -

You must know somethign I don't.
Just had a Green Flag quote for Recovery (me + 1 other) = £159
AA - £89.99
Slight difference!
May just go with AA and hope that the £42 is going to come back (it won't!).0 -
Blimey! Things have changed since I last had a look - sorry!0
