First British gas and then eon

I have already had the goodwill gesture last year when the accepted the £1547.49 rather than making me pay the full amount of £2763.67.They were good about it i must admit. But a year down the line to get this next letter informing me that they were going to take £272 a month after having it all sorted out or so i thought,Then to find out that this adviser had set me up on the wrong tariff for a year when they knew full well what sort of meter i had is very annoying and says to me they do not know what they are doing.I received an email yesterday to inform me that i am now on the heat wise tariff and i am now in credit by £384.78.All sounds good BUT i know i am now paying £58 a mnth dd whilst this is being sorted out but no mention on the email of what the final dd will be set at. Plus the estimated usage/cost predicted for next year is £2193 which is ridiculous ! I am fed up phoning eon it is costing me money as i only have a payg mobile. This company as you state has me by the monopolys
to put it politely. I cannot switch. Even if i could the other companies will charge me 80% more than eon.
That was quoted to me by bg. Hopefully i will get another call next week to get this all sorted
but switching is not as easy as people say thats for sure.0 -
British Gas will only be the prices quoted if you still have 2 MPANs. This is because you would be billed on a best fit tariff as most suppliers cannot bill 2 MPANs.
If you get your meter changed to a standard meter or even an Economy 7 meter ( if you plan on using the Storage Heaters) then you could move to any supplier and get the best deal.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0 -
Unfortunately i live in a council owned property. So having my meter changed is unlikely to be an option.
And even if i could i would be charged for it. I dread to think what that would cost.0 -
Eon shouldn;t charge you for getting the meter changed - and the council won't give a monkeys if the meter is changed. They get chanegd periodically anyway as they have a limited shelf-life.
I can see why you are reluctant to get the meter changed because you are worried Eon will mess things up again . However, the bills (once corrected) will be more with your current set up than if you just had one meter (with one MPan number) with just the one reading on it (as you do not use your storage heaters)0 -
Thanks for that i will mention it to eon.I will need to get permission from the council though as any changes to the property in accordance with my tenancy agreement.I will see what they have to say.0

UPDATE 01/09/2010.
After waiting for a call back from eon representative for a week. The call back did not come.I rang YET again .This time i was irate although i stayed calm on the phone.
I had first received a letter stating my direct debit would be £272 a month.
This was wrong i was apparently on the wrong tariff a standard plan. This was changed to a heat wise tariff as i have a heat wise 2mpan meter which should have been done when i set up last year.
My direct debit was changed to £58 a month in order to stop the £272 coming out until this was sorted out i would get a call back to inform me of what was to happen..I did not...
Next day i get an email telling me i have a new bill. This was full of cancelled charges all 8 pages of it
and the balance which said i was £384 in credit.
the very next day i get yet another email telling me i have a new bill
this was to inform me i was now on heat wise tariff and that i was £346 in credit 4 pages of it.
So on the phone i ask why if i am in credit has my direct debit gone up.I was told that it should not need to go up as i was in credit. So we will reduce the direct debit to £41 a month as it was before.
Ok can i have my cash back that you have please.Er um well we will send you £200 back in the form of a cheque along with a letter to inform you that your direct debit will now be less per month.
I want all my money back please.Well sir the lady said as we evaluate your bill over the year we suggest you leave some of the credit for the winter months based upon what you used last year etc etc.But last year was a very cold winter. What happens if its a very mild one this year and i don`t use hardly any electricity my money is sitting in your companies account gaining you interest. No sir we don`t make money off your credit balance that`s there to help you through the winter months.(bull**it)
.. ok i was not going to spend any longer on the phone ...
So i get my dd put back where it was before and i get £200 back off my credit and i have some credit left over for the winter months or extortionate price hikes we keep getting. I suppose its a good result in some ways. But my phone bill amounts to £20 as i only have a pay as you go mobile.
I am very unhappy with eon in the way i have been ignored and messed about. If i could change suppliers i would.I will not be recommending them to anyone ever.Hopefully i will not have to deal with them again for a very long time.
#many many thanks to all on this forum who offered advice and help#
#much appreciated #
N.B They charge £50 to change meters also i would have to pay and electrician to do a full check to see whether i was possible.the council don`t provide this i would have to pay.
*if it aint broke don`t fix it* especially if it costs me too much.0 -
I had a problem with EDF Energy when I moved into the property that I live in at the moment were i noticed that the meter was pre-payment and that it was using too much gas I managed to go through £50.00 in a week. They refused to change the meter or get anyone out so I complained to their head office and got the meter changed and as soon as I could I walked away from them and complained to Consumer Direct to get a refund on the amount of money I had lost because of the faulty meter.0

meanastheycome wrote: »The reason bg had only taken £1547.49 during this time i was told was because they had only charged me based on one supply point(where as i have two) so they refunded all that i had paid.
eon however were asking for the full payment of £2763.67 as they had been supplying me based on two supply points although b gas had been taking the money. so that`s why from what i was told by a chap called Tim Brundell of the eon complaints dept.
today i received an email telling me my tariff had changed to a heat wise tariff from standard electricity which was the tariff i found out today as one of the eon people rang me to tell me it was being handled now by the pricing maintenance team and that i would be gettin a call next week to inform me of what the result was.having looked at this email was my new energy bill 8 pages of it all
7 of which had all the info i required on it including my new tariff but no mention of how much i would/will be paying on direct debit. now apparently i am £384.78 in credit..BUT on the next page it shows how much i am estimated to spend in the next 12 months which is £2193 a year.
this works out at £182.75 a month or £42.17 a week.Which cannot possibly be right i cannot afford to pay this sort of money a month.this estimate is based on apparently my current usage..i would show you the documents if i new how to get it on here so you can see for yourselves i am wondering whether i should be getting in touch with an ombudsman or someone to look into this.single man living on own. one bedroom property all energy bulbs fitted all powerdown plugs fitted at work all day and quite a few weekends cannot possibly use £2193 worth a year of electricity
COuld you make you lines shorter
because it is really hard to read as it is.
I will be able to read it then.

Hi meanastheycome
I'm sorry you've had such a difficult time with your electricity account. Thought it might help if I gave you a few details about the Heatwise metering set up.
Heatwise is specifically designed for all electric properties with storage heaters. It is wired into the water/heating circuits at your property to provide 10 hours of off peak electricity.
The Heatwise part sits alongside the standard meter. This is why there are two Meter Point Administration Numbers (MPANs); one for the standard meter and the second to cover the Heatwise part.
You can have Heatwise with either Economy 7 or a single rate tariff.
Heatwise automatically switches the storage heaters on during the off peak times and switches them off again when it finishes. Heat is then released gradually throughout the day.
Similarly, the immersion heater is switched on and off automatically during the off peak times.
Heatwise meters are fitted at the request of the property builder but can be changed to a standard meter if necessary. However, you are quite correct about the need to have the system checked over by a qualified electrician before doing this.
This is something I always advise because, as I mentioned above, Heatwise is wired into the water/heating circuitry and changing it may have implications for these areas.
I can also confirm the cost of £50 to change the meter.
If you do decide to go on to a standard meter, you will be able to choose from a range of different tariffs both with us and other suppliers.
As Heatwise is somewhat of a hybrid metering set up peculiar to E.ON, it does not appear on the independent comparison sites.
I suspect the unique nature of Heatwise is also why BG were unable to take over the supply.
From your last post, it seems we have now re-billed you on the correct Heatwise tariff. This should have been done for the duration of your time at the property.
Our agent was correct in advising you to leave a certain amount of credit on your account to offset higher winter bills. However, it is your money and you can demand a full refund if you wish.
Doing this, though, will inevitably lead to future requests to increase your monthly payments as the balance on your account will not be seen as sufficient to see you through to the annual review next spring, possibly even putting your account in debt.
Again, I'm really sorry you have had such a torrid time but trust your account has now been sorted out. I also hope I have answered your questions. Let me know if I have missed anything.
