I hope you're all correct - if anyone has actually ceased paying for a 19 year old currently in education or is still paying, your comments and feedback would be greatly received.

I can confirm without doubt that CSA payments stop on the Sundayor Monday after their 19th birthday.

There is a law going through parliament with Royal Assent but not implemented yet to increase the age to 20 if they are in full-time education i.e. doing A Levels, not at University.
  • Hi All
Just to let you know today my partner received in writing confirmation his payments had stopped because his daughter had ceased being a child by reaching the age of 19!!!

Thought, Id just let you know if there's anyone else out there still confused by the whole age thing! :p

My DH's eldest turned 19 at the beginning of the month - he will now be paying 15% from next month. The liability ceases ON the 19th birthday - not the Sunday or Monday after.

Could I ask how long it took to get the written confirmation? DH phoned and informed them 2 weeks ago, they said they would send a letter out but he hasn't received anything yet.

I was told that this would take up to 12 weeks and that I should keep paying. But when I complained and got my MP involved they resolved it in 2 weeks, closed my case and even gave me a refund for overpayments.

He called last Friday (day before 19th bday) and was told the case will be closed but the admin could take to Monday, was then called on Monday at 4.30pm and told case was officially closed and received the letter yesterday! Have to say, it was all very straightforward. Just wish everyone at the CSA would give out the same information - guess he was lucky with the lady who happened to take his call! :)

Thanks - they didn't mention 12 weeks and there's no way he will keep paying for another 12 weeks! Although he is on maintenance direct which maybe different.

A week after my DH did then. I'm not too worried as they can't dispute the effective date if it's a birthday! But think I'll get him to ring them and make sure.
