Hello,
Among the main differences is that the 1st generation iPod touch did NOT have a built in speaker whereas the later generations do.
This next quote is taken from the wiki article posted above:The 2nd generation iPod Touch, featuring external volume controls, a built-in speaker, a contoured back, built-in Nike+, Bluetooth support, and the ability to connect a microphone, was unveiled on September 9, 2008, at the "Let's Rock" keynote presentation.

1st gens didnt have blue tooth .
2nd gen 8GB is the latest version of that. only the 32GB and 64GB versions are 3rd generation which has increased processor.
2nd gen also don't work well with OS4Survey earnings total 2009 £417, 2010 £875, 2011 £5740
