Perhaps the number you are trying to ring doesn't accept incoming calls. It may not actually have anything to do with the 141 prefix. Payphones, for instance, often don't accept calls in.

Yes the number that i am calling does accept incoming calls i am certain about it . it is when i put 141 before the number that i get the reply '' Calls to this number are barred ''

My wife's mobile doesn't accept calls where the number is withheld but that diverts them straight to voicemail. Perhaps there is something built into their switchboard along the same lines.

Why have you got to ring by mobile phone? Why can't you use a payphone if you don't want them to see your number?

It all seems very odd.

Or get a payg sim topped up by the minimum amount for a single use, might even be cheaper than a payphone!

for one call only, and if 141 doesn't work on your network, then dial the number prefixed by #31#

If 141 or the auto hide of the number fails, buy a sim card from a local shop or order them free online. This will give you a little credit and a totally seperate phone number.
