DLA Medical?

Hi guys, I applied for DLA almost two months ago now, they wrote back fairly quickly, telling me they had wrote to my doctor. I've just got a phone call now, maybe three-four weeks after that letter? They want me to go down for a medical. I'm claiming DLA for Agoraphobia, no physical health issues.

I can manage to get to the medical. I was just wondering what the medical will include? Is it likely I will get DLA if they are asking for a medical?

Thanks, I'm new to this whole thing so don't know if it's a good or bad thing that they are asking for a medical and also don't have a clue what to expect since I have no physical ailments so don't know how they will test me for mental health?

I'm 19, if it helps. Thank you.

not being rude hun, but if you can make it there, then you most likely will pass the medical and not get dla, as they are most likely deem you not severe enough, obviously if you could not leave your home and request a home visit, the outcome could be different

  • Ok but they already know that I can make it to certain places so long as I have my carer with me. So that's something they already know. Thanks though...I wasn't expecting anything more than a negative reply here.

mupette wasnt being deliberately negative, he/she was being realistic and accurate

if you need someone to be with you when you are out (ie. your carer) you might get low rate mobility.

its not based on your condition, its based on your care needs (ie. needing help preparing a main meal, needing help washing, needing help getting about etc).

from the info you have given, i cant see you getting any care rate nor high rate mobility

if you attend the medical unaccompanied you will probably fail it because you wouldnt meet the dla low rate mobility criteria ("you may get this if you can walk, but you need guidance or supervision from another person when you are walking out of doors in unfamiliar places")
2 esa medicals passed successfully (support group - it can be done!!)!! :j

Not always true! I went to my tribunal myself and got lost on the way. I was asked if I had problems getting there and I aid yes. I was then given LRM.

to be fair, its always good to be cynical when it comes to dla medicals and examiners.. :D

sounds like you had a nice medical examiner :)

  • I didn't put much information because I don't deem it necessary to the question I was asking and I won't be unaccompanied.

No one has really answered my question though. What will the medical include?

Sorry I didn't mean to sound so negative.

Personally i haven't been asked for a medical yet (am on dla too)

what i am getting at is, that so many people on here have had medicals, are crippled in pain, can barely shuffle, let alone walk, obviously not capable of doing much for themselves, yet they pass the medical.

I wouldn't want you to think that it will be a breeze,
Agoraphobia must be a terrible thing to live with day in and day out, i used to suffer with panic attacks, and still get the odd one, and i thought those were bad.

I wish you luck and hope you you get the help that you need.

I really didn't mean to sound nasty or negative.

Sorry i can't answer your question, as i have said i have not been requested to have a medical yet.

Thank you. It is horrible to live with and it isn't the only thing I am claiming for, there are other things I have had to put down on the form. I am just dreading that it will be physical and I will have to remove my clothes or something. :( I don't think I could go through with it if that was the case. I can cope with them just asking questions.

Thanks again, guess I will just have to wait and see what happens.

If the guy you see asks you to remove your clothes to check you for agorophobia I would suspect you have turned up at the wrong place :rotfl:
