dodgy camera from Amazon

This is the exact same reply we received from Amazon about an item we bought from them and broke within 2 years...
...If you are absolutely sure the fault is not down to anything you have done keep going with them. It seems they have a standard fob off email hoping that most people will give up!!
Nope. Seems they are acting in line with SoGA, beyond 6 months YOU need to prove an inherent fault. The retailer isn't liable unless you do so. Seems to me Amazon are acting absolutely correctly.0 -

I was quite happy to prove there was an inherent fault by way of an engineers report, however in the first instance of correspondance with Amazon they would not even accept that. They said it was nothing to do with them and they would not help at all, which is not acting in line with SOGA. This is why it took quite a few emails before they would accept their responsibilities as a retailer.Any spelling mistakes are entirely on purpose to check you're paying attention0 -
what was the make of camera? sometimes the manufacturer may come to your assistance.
When you say you are a "photographer", I would assume it must be one of the high-end Panasonic Lumix models or similar, in which case you'll find they can be really helpful with faulty items.I'm now a retired teacher... hooray ...:j
Those who can do, those who can't, come to me for lessons:cool:0 -

My reply was based on the emails you've provided here.0 -

No, no, not at all! Even photographers take snaps at times! It is (was...) just a cheap little casio. I only bought it because it was on offer and I thought it would be useful to take on a night out, or take the odd snap of family around the house. (You know, the kind of thing most folks use their cameras-in-phones for?!) But being a photographer you're sort of lumbered with getting the whole kit out and "doing it properly" hence it was not used much. Certainly wouldn't describe Casio as a high-end camera outfit!0 -

Being a disbelieveing sort I have emailed them just to make sure but it seems all I have to do is send them the bloomin thing back! :T Hurrah for makers of cheapy little cameras!

amazon are actually based in luxembourg iirc, so everything they sell direct is 2 year eu warranty. They dont like admitting this but watchdog did pull them up on it......0

"amazon are actually based in luxembourg iirc, so everything they sell direct is 2 year eu warranty."
But the camera was not bought direct from Casio, the OP says that he bought it from Amazon. The fact remains that the OP's contract is with Amazon - not Casio - so it should be Amazon to whom he is returning the faulty goods, not the manufacturer.
He needs to point out to Amazon that there is a 2 year guarantee on the camera and get them to sort it with the manufacturer.0
