The latest updates fail to install either automatically or manually individually - KB218346, KB2229593, KB981852, KB981997, KB982214.
This is on a Dell D630 with XP SP3.
Anyone else had same problem and known fix?

This is usually resolved by manually going to the microsoft download centre and typing in the relevant KBxxxxx there.
Maybe KB218346 is a typo as I couldn't find it. The rest are below
KB981997 KB2229593 KB981852 KB982214
Just follow instructions there. (double check these are the ones you really want, incase you or I have searched the wrong download)0 -

Edit: I found KB218346 but its a 3rd party site (translated by google) and its a Chinese update for IE8 Windows Server 2003! which I honestly can't see you needing. Maybe this is the one thats causing the fails.0 -
Thanks, tried direct route but still not works.
The other laptop updated OK which is running XP Home.
I'm gonna check and compare their update logs.
I also tried the MS Fix It tool and after restarting it finds 8 updates which fail to install and then finds another 3 which also fail.0 -
Error Code: 0xD0000006
This is the error code for the failed updates.0 -
A quick search suggests you may have an imminent hard drive failure. This may not be the case so dont panic just yet.
Go to cmd prompt and run "chkdsk c: /r", which may help.Friendly greeting!0 -
Ran chkdsk which took hours, 5 stages and found 2 bad clusters.
After restart updates have now installed.
Thanks.0
