Laptop running slow

Hi guys

My old Acer laptop is running very slow. And I can hear the Groans... Acer, that cheap rubbish. I know, it was all we could afford at the time.

Anyhow been trying to follow some advice from the Hijacked Links thread, and wondered if I could ask for some help to try and tidy up mine.

I know it needs more memory but at the moment that is not an option.

I use windows 7, have kaspersky installed and use Google chrome or firefox, rather than IE.

The startup progs can be slimmed down easily - see section with lines starting O4 in the HJT log.

Personally, I use the tools section in Ccleaner to manage my startup progs, highlight and click disable.
You could, for example, disable all those listed except the HP ones and Kapersky with no ill effects.
There is software called "The Ultimate Troubleshooter" which can help you to identify all startups and services that simply don't need to run - but its not free.

We have just put my nieces machine right.
It was almost full so the defragmenter could not run properly,therefore it was quite heavily fragmented despite it having 'defragment' automatically selected.
We removed her pictures onto a Disc so that it could have some space to rearrange files as it defrags and it is running much smoother.
Don't know if that might help at all.

Theres nothing obvious in the log

Check for nasties ~
Download MALWAREBYTES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
Open malwarebytes and goto UPDATE and click 'check for updates'. After its updated goto SCANNER and click PERFORM FULL SCAN then click SCAN
Remove everything thats found (needs to be ticked)
Post the COMPLETE log here AFTER youve deleted everything it finds

I tried running Malwarebytes, it was running for about half an hour and then crashed and shut down, the laptop didn't, just the program. And it would not let me check for latest updates, kept coming up with error message. Should I reinstall?

Only uninstall and reinstall if you believe it never installed properly in the 1st place

Then reboot and keep pressing F8 to get into 'safe mode with networking'

UPDATE from there (if you can) and run a QUICK scan instead

ok uninstalled and reinstalled malwarebytes anti-malware. It automatically did the updates to latest version and is currently running.

Did an Acer Aspire 5135 the other day. Take base cover off laptop (big one with several screws holding it in, remove fan, clear out block of fluff. Refit.
