I want to leave Pipex and go to another ISP such as Virgin. According to the Virgin website I need to get a MAC code from Pipex and then they'll do the rest.
Has anyone done this? Does it work? Is it foolproof?
What I can't figure out is whether I have to personally cancel or give notice to Pipex (I've been with them 2 years) or whether Virgin do this for me; and at what point I am supposed to stop my payments to Pipex and start paying Virgin. Or is this somehow 'arranged', too?
I'd like to think there'll be no overlap on payments, or is that too much to expect!
Pipex customer service is too poor to bother asking. I intend contacting Virgin but I thought I would ask here, first.

1. get your MAC
2. give it to Virgin
3. you should then successfully migrate to Virgin 7 or so days later
4. Your Pipex connection will no longer work
5. ring up Pipex, and check your account has been closed0 -
Hello MrJ,
Cheers for that. But what happens to my DD to Pipex? Does it automatically turn into a DD for Virgin?0 -
When you sign up for Virgin. They should ask your payment details then (credit/debit card etc). As part of the signup process, you will be able to enter your MAC. This makes switching a lot quicker and easier. You should only lose a broadband connection for less than an hour while they switch you from Pipex to Virgin.
When you ask Pipex for the MAC. Do not say you want to cancel, only ask for the MAC. If they cancel your connection, you can't use a MAC, and you will be offline for a couple of weeks untill Virgin is setup.
Once you've switched. Virgin will start billing you, and Pipex should stop billing you. Always worth checking your bank payments though to make sure Pipex have stopped taking payments. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?
