he has been advised it may be about £20000

Actually, it is £200,000 and £225,000 in the south east.

Iolanthe07 stated "Ignorant people talk about the Church of England sitting on vast wealth, but this is a myth". In FACT it is not a myth (if £4bn isn't vast wealth, I don't know what is).

I'm a he. And i never denied the £4 billion. What I said was that ignorant people don't realise that it is mainly a pension fund, and one in dire straights atm.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

As we have moved away from the original topic:

Didn't the church lose hundreds of millions on property speculation in the 1980s?

Wonder what Jesus would think of them hoarding then losing so much money.

Loads of villages have very loud church bells bang in the middle!

It not in a village, its in a London suburb.

I think Jesus was a realistic guy. I bet he would have had a long chat with them to find out if their methods were kosher and then decided whether or not to upturn their banking tables!

There was a vicar-like bloke on Homes Under the Hammer I think ... one of the property programmes. He'd been there to buy a house for his retirement because when he left his job he was given £72k towards his future housing needs.

Now ... shortage of vicar types are there... how do you get to be one then?

As I recall, they get paid a lot - and where I used to live the job seemed to be mostly about riding round the village on your bike, popping in to have tea with locals.

Sounds like the Vicar here. He gets a massive big modern vicarage and owns a smaller house which he rents out. He is forever on holiday and always having little "accidents" so he goes on sick leave.;)

If you ring him you get an ansafone message saying what hours he works and when his days off are. He has the church council meetings at his house and he wants that over & done with asap. Even on the coldest winter night you are never offered a hot drink and are put in a tiny room with no heating and hard chairs so you don't stay long.

His job really is money for old rope. He is only in his 40's but so lazy that he gets people running around doing jobs for him, which the old Vicar used to do himself.
