Help - Lost car key

Help needed please. Unfortunately my dh has lost the one and only key to our car! We've searched the house from top to bottom and the road between the house and the car and have found nothing. We can only assume that he dropped it this evening between the car and the house and someone has picked it up. The car is parked a good 200meters away from our house on the otherside of the road from us and we are concerned that someone has picked up the key and is waiting for it to go dark and then they will pinch it! Paronoid I know but we've had our car vandalised 3 times and 6 weeks ago our car was written off in a hit and run!

Any ideas what we can do?

Go and visit a few of your neighbours and explain what has happened. Ask them to move their cars and block yours in for tonight so it can't be moved.

    Disconnect and remove the battery.

Wouldn't it be best to inform the police about it, just incase the car does go missing during the night?

Unfortunately I have neighbours that wouldn't spit on me if I was on fire. I have been trying to contact the police for the last hour aand a half and no-one is picking up the phone!!!!

I'm honestly not sure what the police will be able to do.

I was half hoping that they might have had the key handed in or that they have a huge bunch of keys that they will come and try in my lock till they find the right one! Naive I know!

Any one got any idea how much it's going to cost to replace the key?

What car is it? How old?

Without a key to use as a template you're probably looking at an expensive fix that will involve getting codes from the manufacturer so that the dealer can get you a new key :(
