Round here I personally prefer Folkestone to Dover... Hythe is posher if you can find something affordable there. Folkestone, Dover and Ashford are cheaper than most of East Kent. All the roads going east-west from Kent to Sussex are very slow so you should definitely try any regular drives before deciding on somewhere... to go to Brighton from here its quicker/less frustrating to go up to the M25 and back down again then try and go cross-country.

As to increase in house prices... I'm quite bearish but its generally thought that the high-speed links will push up prices in East Kent particularly Folkestone* and the other coastal towns involved as it'll be less than an hour to London. I'm not enough of a gambler to buy a house to see if that forecast is right though - I think the train ticket prices will be so high (the fast trains are going to be more expensive apparantly) they'll deter less wealthy commuters so it'll be the higher end houses that will increase in price rather than the 2/3-bed terraces. I'm probably talking rubbish though.

*Much talk of regeneration in Folkestone and Dover but not much happening fast as far as I can see.
:shhh: There's somewhere you can go and get books to read... for free!
:coffee: Rediscover your local library! _party_
  • I moved to Hastings 3 years ago (not from Chelsea!) and I'd thoroughly recommend it to you. We're still having a lovely time and the property is still good value for money, we couldn't afford to buy our 2 bed council flat even with the discount but we managed to buy a 3 bed terrace here with a 1/3 deposit! Also when the baby's bigger you'll have loads to do:D

  • Julybride... Hastings outskirts...We moved here over 6 years ago having known the area well because we use to spend many weekends in the area with our touring Caravan. We also viewed property all along the SE Coast before deciding on Bexhill on Sea. The Weather here is very good as Englands goes...plenty of variety within a stonesthrow................... It is worth spending time visiting the various places until you get a real feel for a place. It is not just the property we found that was important, although it was high on the list to find good value for our money. Good Luck to you.
