FairFX card delivery

If anyone is put off getting one because of the 7-10 working days for delivery, I ordered mine on Sunday and it came in the post today, so 3 working days. I'm not saying it's always this fast but may help someone who is going away in a week or two.

When you say second card, is that a different currency? I had been wondering if they would let you have 2 or 3 of the same type (say for 2 people going away to carry 1 each & have 1 spare - would also help avoid having all eggs in one blocked/lost/stolen card).
Certain OTT members have caused me to add this disclaimer: all advice given is free of charge & as such should be taken to be IIRC (as I don't spend hours researching all answers  )!

We have two dollar cards for that very reason.

    4. Sign up for more than one card

Consider taking more than one FairFX Currency Card with you on your travels to act as a backup. If one card gets lost, stolen or damaged then you'll be able to get access to your reserve cash straight away and we will be able to transfer funds from one card to the other.

And I got the £7.50 quidco on both cards - though they were ordered some time apart. :)

Also I keep one with a very small balance for use in Internet cafes when travelling - for buying bus/train tickets usually costing £1-£10 in Asia.

  • I have just returned from the USA having used the FairFX card. First time card users should be aware that the banks do not know about the $2 fee that Fair FX charge for each ATM withdrawal. Any fee shown on the ATM screen is the banks fee and is in addition to the FairFx fee. I was caught out at the Zion Bank which said that the transaction would cost $2 which I assumed was the FairFx fee. It wasn't until I checked my FairFx account online that I noticed what had happened. Other banks, Wells Fargo for instance, stated very clearly on the ATM that the bank was charging ($3 in this case so it obviously wasn't the FairFx fee).
FairFx have taken an "it's all in the terms and conditions" approach unfortunately which is a shame because, as reported earlier, delivery is quick, the exchange rate is good, loading the card is easy, and it's safer than carrying cash. Just be aware that not all withdrawals are free. :)

got mine in 3 days as well.

I only use it for buying flights in sterling on Ryanair to save on card costs.

But I'm going to USA next year, should I get another one to put some dollars on?

    Cheers.

What has the fee from the American bank to do with Fairfx??

If you had a 'normal' bank card, would you complain to them about the American bank's fee?

Have to agree with Donnie - FairFX charge a fee for withdrawals, many US ATMs charge a fee for withdrawals...the US ATM doesn't somehow waive its fee because you've also been charged by FairFX...the US bank doesn't need to know about FairFX's fees because they aren't relevant to the ATM transaction. I appreciate that you're just trying to make sure that others understand, but it's pretty well-known that US ATMs charge (in most cases).

    The FairFX website states:

If you are withdrawing currency at an ATM the standard FairFX fees apply (€1.50, $2.00), some ATM providers charge for using their cash points however they normally inform you of this before you make a withdrawal.
