BT Broadband 40GB Option 3. Any good?

Hello! Been lurking on boards for couple of weeks and love all the great advice!
I was sondering why noone ever mentions BT broadband and their feelings on it?
I have had tiscali 1 meg unlimited and never had problems. Just moved to new place and have to install BT and pay £124 connection. I think I have to contract with them for a year so may just get this broadband option.
I and my flatmate will use broadband for surfing 3-4 hours a day. We both use msn messenger video calls, skype, youtube, myspace, and I download about 15-20GB movies by torrents a month(she doesnt download). Is 40GB enough and do bt let you monitor usage?
thanks in advance for any advice!

Oh? So after a year can I cancel my phoneline with BT and just pay tiscali or will I always have to pay £11 a month to BT no matter what?0 -
you still will have to pay line rental.... but you can use any provider for line rental, that uses the bt wholesale network, eg. The Post Office0

I have BT Broadband (option 2 I think). Have been with BT Broadband and am fairly happen with them. My connection is very reliable, which is important to me, and I haven't really had any major customer service problems - little niggles now and again but nothing compared to some of the Talk Talk nightmares.
They are obviously a bit more expensive but I negotiated a discount on the standard price recently when I theatened to leave, so the price differential is not as big as it might seem.
I also have my full phone account with BT. I make very few calls on the landline so there's no point paying a monthly charge for free calls with someone else, and the standard items included with line rental like Caller Display, itemised calls, 1471 etc can stack with some other providers, e.g. Talk Talk, so it's not really worth me changing.
My ultimate reason for staying with BT is that I do trust them with my phone and broadband connection. I trust some of the others about as far as I can throw them - and I couldn't throw Dunstone very far at all!0 -
I forgot to say, BT don't let you monitor your usage, but they don't have a problem with you going over the limit occasionally.0

thanks for all the advice- have installed my line and waiting for tiscali to connect my broadband!
Couldnt afford BT I'm afraid.
Why is it so much dearer? 0 -
Tiscali is the worst provider, based on the countless complaints I have seen with speed, CS, and more - cheapest isn't always the best0

What do you mean "BT don't let you monitor your usage"? They can't stop you monitoring your usage if you use a program like NetMeter, which will provide you with the full facts about your actual usage.

:jI went for the bt tt bb, as I believe you get what you pay for, and with what you get free its worth every penny, free home hub, free home hub phone, free bt studio 1500 phone, free to keep once the bt home hub phone arrives, as it;s got a problem apparently the buttons fall off so they've all been sent back, if you sign up from www.game.co.uk/bt you also get 12 months free xbox live worth £39.99, also norton anti-virus and firewall free for a year, free evening and weekend calls from your landline and free evening and weekend calls via bb, plus if you do it via direct debit you get a discount, and you don't have to have the calls at all, as I'm with primus saver option 2 for my phone, and I only paid £8.00 a month line rental as I did it whole bill and saved alot of money, they say I have to pay £34.00 amonth for the bt tt bb line rental included which I think isn't bad. I use my mobile in the day time, which is a 12 months free 12 month contract so even though I have to put the money up front I get it all back and I see it as a way of saving up, but with out the interest, hope this help's and pluging in the bt home hub is easy t plus 250 wifi mins
Pls be nice to all MSer's

Trying to get my head round all the different packages and so on and also work out just exactly what Broadband is!
I think I need it as it will be quicker than my old dial up and I am favouring BT as they seem more trustworthy, albeit a little more expensive.
Computerwoman refers to the hub phone - this is being offered free at the moment. What is it? Is it just a telephone? Why might this be useful if I already have a decent phone?
Does the 40 GB download include things like pdf files? If so, how much text does 40 GB look like?
Any advice gratefully received.0
