What's the deal?
thetrainline is currently trialing a new print your tickets at home style service and in return is offering dirt cheap tickets (from £5 for a single) on a range of routes. All you need is to make sure you have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed (click here for a free download) and a printer.
Tickets are currently available to buy up until 6 October, though it's worth noting that as this is a trial, when it roles out the service permanently the tickets may not be as cheap.
What routes are available?
Birmingham to London - £7
Cambridge to London - £5
Derby to London - £6
Leicester to London - £6
London to Sheffield - £6

How does it work?
Simply, choose the route you want to travel on, select a train, enter your details, pay and print out your ticket. Tickets are available up until 6pm the day before travel though numbers are limited so book early if you can. Do make sure when you print that the ticket is clear (see the printathome site for guidance).
The Savings
So for example book a ticket from London to Birmingham via National Rail for the next day and the cheapest fare available (at the time of writing this) is £25.40. Book at printathome and it'll cost you £7, saving £18 or £37 for a return journey.
Terms and Conditions
Tickets are non-refundable and changes to travel are not allowed. Tickets must be booked by 6pm the day before travel. For full t's & c's click here.

According to the updates page, the last travel dates have been extended a few days before the expiry of the date so hopefully this will be extended again at the end of September/beginning of October.
I wish I had seen this before the end of the summer holidays!0 -

Adobe Acrobat is a massive download these days and can slow your pc down- i'd recommend the foxit free pdf reader at http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/reader_2/down_reader.htm
Really small download and works just as well (if not better) than Adobe's bloated version.Moneysaving since 2004!0 -

That's not nice! Apologise immediately! (LOL)0 -
I checked the London to Birmingham route and the trial only seems to be on four services a day, all of which leave after 8pm.0

I bet you felt really chuffed after saying that!0 -
I know you can also get £5 singles on Anglia Railways (now one Anglia) trains down to London, I assume the same works in reverse...also known as The Sausage King0

exactly what I was going to suggest. foxit reader is size free, hassle free, rather than that cloggy Acrobat.Save saynoto0870.com in your favorites, and stop giving companies more £££ dialling 0870 numbers when you can dial freephones or cheaper alternatives
call your credit card company, tell them that you want to leave, 99% of the time theyll lower your APR%
Remember when that Bank Manager or Salesperson smiles at you, all he sees is £ notes. Dont forget the motto, "the wider their grin, the more debt your in"0
