Child DLA and higher rate mobility.. lots of Q's..

My 5 year old has just been awarded higher rate mobility and middle rate care so I have a whole list of questions..
We got a form for claim in free tax disc.. however the car is in my partners name, as he has not got any legal responsibilty for Tiddles can he still claim this?
The car we have needs to be bigger (you cannot get 10 people in a ford focus.. ) could we get a people carrier as motability car or are there a select few we can choose from?
How/where do you go about looking into such things?
Is there a 'best way' to go about dealing with this? I didn't think we would get it for her so this is a big shock they have awarded so much TBH..
I will be contacting KIDs when I get 5 minutes to ask their advice but the person I need to speak to is on holiday until next week.
TIA

You cannot get ten people in most people carriers - does your child have several carers at once?Gone ... or have I?0

You can get a people carrier but may have to pay a deposit for it.
Best bet is to go and look round a couple of dealers.
Loads of info here and a price guide for deposit's.

The tax disc means the car is used only for benefit of disabled person so if car in use for your partner going to and from work, footbal and social things not for benefit of person with disability that is outside the guidelines.0

pigpen remember to inform tax credits of your child's award as you will get a disability premium with your CTC.
Your partner could get the car tax: To claim exemption from paying vehicle tax, the vehicle must be registered in your name or registered in the name of someone you nominate to drive for you (a nominee).

Going to and from work could benefit the disabled child. (having a roof over their head, food on the table, etc)Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

From direct Gov website
Using the vehicle
To claim exemption from paying vehicle tax, the vehicle must be registered in your name or registered in the name of someone you nominate to drive for you (a nominee).
The vehicle must only be used for your purposes, for example shopping or getting prescriptions.
If it is being used by the nominee or someone else for their own personal needs, then the exemption will be lost. If you no longer qualify for vehicle tax exemption, you will need to tax your car in the appropriate tax class and pay the correct rate of vehicle tax.

my car is a mini mpv, and yes you can get a ppl carrier, as already said you might have to pay a few hundred pounds deposit, remember if you get motoability then the tax disc and insurance comes with the car.
Although OH will not be able to treat it as their car for their purposes, but he can keep his car and get motability for DSu
you then will become a 2 car family, if needs be.
example, before i was awarded my dla i had a Toyota, and had the tax paid on it, but i couldn't drive it any more as it was too painful to sit in and change gear, so i nominated the OH who does not live with me to be my driver (on the insurance - remember this is my car)
i then got dla and got a motability car that suited me and my needs so gave the OH my car, i then have my own and he has mine, (well its his now)
it is very easy to get a motability car, http://www.motability.co.uk/main.cfm look at the page of cars and it will tell you how much of the mobility of dla rate they take and how much deposit0
