I would list with the minimum I would hope to get rather than a reserve.

i told her if she didn't sell it to me she could lose her power seller status.

I would give that a go too.
Reserves annoy me as a customer, but I know that they normally mean less to pay in fees for the seller than if they just listed with a higher starting price, so it's ebay's fault really!
