No FENSA Certificate

Options
Hi There,

I wonder if anyone can please help me...
I recently purchased a property which had only single glazing throughout.
Through my F*!^wit of a BIL (whole other story) I had double glazing installed.
When pressed on the subject of getting a FENSA certificate, BIL 'fessed up and said person who did the installing was not FENSA registered and thus no certificate.

What do i do?
Also concerned that my windows may not be proper double glazing. How can i know for sure? I don't remember seeing any markings on the windows.

    a FENSA certificate,
So you haven't got a a bit of paper . Big deal.
may not be proper double glazing.
Does it keep the draughts out , but lets the light in ?? Thats a window.
    I recently purchased a property
So not planning to sell just yet.

Sold a house in 2008 , with brand new windows , no certificate. Only people who were concerned were the 'paper' shufflers, the buyers could see that the windows were ..... windows.

    exactly.
FENSA is just another useless scam by the trade, for the trade.
just tell any new buyers, that the windows were installed years ago.
    prior to 2002.
    Get some gorm.

Surely you can just look at them an tell if they are double glazed units or not?

Thickness and silver/black strips between the panes give it away

I had some windows installed last year buy a FENSA approved company.
It took a while (3 months) for the FENSA certificate to come through.

An A5 black and white piece of card with a FENSA logo and a bit of blurb on it. Big deal.
In fact, I could have knocked one up at work in 2 minutes.

    FENSA Certificates anyone??

Maybe, but you could not also register the work with the local council as the FENSA company does.

The certificate is relatively meaningless, but the installation can be checked via the building control dept at the council

At some time in the future, the Solicitor doing the conveyance wont do this, he will stay in his office.

However from his office, he will check with the council and if no installation record exists, his eyes light up and the usual circus and stress begins - more often than not resulting in the seller knocking some money off
