After reading round the web for ages, a good old-fashioned phone call told me the trade I needed was a glazier.

Looked up my local one in Manchester, Chappell Glass, and they fitted a new panel in my patio door for £230.

Took about a week and a half because they measured up, took away the cat flap I had bought and ordered a glass pane to be cut to the flap size.

One happy cat who can now stroll in at 5am after a night on the tiles.

Can anyone please recommend a catflap fitter who can fit flap in sliding glass door in Northumberland or Newcastle area?
  • hi, I'm also looking for a cat flap fitter in the West Sussex area. I've sourced some details from the web but really hope that I can get a tradesman recommended by the community.

    thanks!

you just need a local glazier or window firm . they buy a new toughened unit with a hole in and change your old one .

  • So... we got several quotes for our French patio door (180h x 35w) and they allranged between £210 and £230 for replacing a new glass panel and installing the cat flap. I have ordered a Sureflap (microchip version) and the additional adapter needed for glass installation, however when it arrived it turned out that the adapter dimensions listed on Amazon were incorrect and out glass was narrower by half an inch... I'm sending it back. Now have to research other brands as Sureflap don't have a model that would fit our door....

I came across 2 other brands - "PetSafe" and "Pet Mate" .... Could anyone with experience recommend either of those brands?

If the hole and flap fitted could you have cut the sides of the extension to fit inside the rebate . That's a small unit for a French door but a large enough space for a catflap (about a foot showing )

  • Who in West Sussex installs catflaps in DG French doors for between £210-£230? I've just been quoted £350 and that's without the catflap!!
