I signed up for the 3 Mobile 16GB iphone 4 tariff - £30/month 2 years. But today I got billed for £35.53 as they say the £30 does not include the VAT!!! (it was 29.73 ex VAT) I am phoning them tomorrow and complain about it. as they did not mention this anywhere before - not even on the contract i signed. are all pay monthly tariff for iphone 4 ex VAT, including O2, Orange and Vodafone?

where did you buy it? all consumer phone contracts have to show the price including VAT. only business contracts are allowed to show exc vat.
Is it your first bill? if it is its probably just the charges for 1 and a bit months, when I got my first bill from 3 I got charged for 1 month and 7 days, pretty standard, you pay for what you used up untill you enter their billing cycle plus a month in advance.

Thanks for help it is my first bill - I got it from a 3 store on 8th August and received the bill on 12th August. on the e-invoice it says "bill up to:11th August" I think I maybe paying £35 for 4 days?!? How come they charge me for 1 month+a bit if it is billed up to 11th August?

Oh and I did realise the mins become 575 instead of 500, i think you are probably right about the charge for 1 month+a bit but maybe theres something wrong with the 'bill up to' date? it should be bill up to 11th September?
  • They charge you for a months line rental in advance, so the bill at 11 August includes the tariff charge to 11 September. You've then got a charge included (as it's your first bill) for the period 8/8 to 11/8. In September, you'll get a bill for just one months line rental plus anything you've used that's outside your tariff (such as sending a picture message).

You have paid your line rental until September 11th, but you have been BILLED upto 11th August - that is billable items, eg premium rate calls - anything that is not included in your inclusive minutes/texts etc :)

    There is no 'trick'.

Thanks! that explains it well. so when my contract ends in July 2012(24 months?), I will get billed around 12 July-ish, my question is will they terminate my SIM card after the billing date (12 July), or that i can still use it until the end of July? does the the 24 months on contract means Actually 24 months or just 24 bills?

omg, i didn't realise you can click on the bill and view the details!!! i went on downloading the PDF that does not say anything! THANKS A LOT!!! i wouldn't start the thread if I've seen the details, yes it says "Hello. As this is your first bill you'll see two charges. The first charge covers you from the date you joined 3 to the end of the first month. The second charge is for your first full month. Your next bill (and following bills) will just show your normal monthly charge." thanks guys for all of your help! problem solved
