New York Shopping

Can anyone help????

Next week we fly to New York and want to shop at the regular department stores where the locals would shop. The only department stores I can locate are Macys, Bloomingdales etc, all Fifth Avenue stores with Fifth Avenue prices!!!

Has anyone had any success in finding regular department sores (equivalent to BHS, M&S, Debenhams, John Lewis...) that sell ordinary non-designer clothes at ordinary prices?

If you know of any in Manhattan I would greatly appreciate your help.

Thanks

You should take a look in Bloomies and Macys

They do not just do designer gear at designer prices - they do loads of cheap and cheerful and good qquality too - they often have offers and reductions

Don't miss out on them !!

  • Have just checked out their website and it looks fantastic http://www.oldnavy.com :)
  • we came back from New York at the weekend, hope you have a fab time...

There was a store called Express for 20 something mens and lasies fashion and also a big chain called Ann Taylor, simmilar to Principles/Wallis - you'll come by these stores all over Manhattan

There's also quite a few banana republic stores... erm... *thinking* Crate & Barrell for housewares - lovely!

As for full department stores the only ones we came across are the ones you have already mentioned, although we weren't looking out for them

You HAVE to head to Century 21. That is where you can pick up some serious designer clothes bargains, but be prepared to spend some time looking.

Also remember you only have a c.£160 duty free allowance.

Keep an eye out for Daffys. Designer & non designer clothes, shoes, underwear etc at cheap prices. A bit like TK Maxx. I didn't seem to spend much in there, but got an awful lot for my money. I'm sure if you google Daffys they have a website with a store finder. Thre's more than one branch.
Macy's do an 11% international customer discount card - pick it up at customer services. You will be surprised at the bargains in there, your dollars go a long way.

    Edit: daffy's store finder

Totally agree, the store is right across from Ground Zero.

When I went last, about 3 years ago, went to 'Bed Bath and Beyond' think its on 6th avenue.

Old Navy is great and also Banana republic.

Century 21 is good, but muddly!
