Can she get a crisis loan?

My Mum is a widow and earns approx 1500 pcm...she has a mortgage etc.
I have read you can get a crisis loan if something is causing danger...my mums fence is about to fall down, she cannot afford to get it replaced and can't get any credit anywhere, and it is dangerous to those in the garden and passers by, is this something that can help or is there anything that can?

Can't you help her mend it until she can save the money to have it done properly?0

Best to speak to the Social Fund people directly for crisis loans.0

just take the fence down before it falls. Simple and costs nothing0 -
I believe that crisis loans are only granted if there is an immediate threat to the health and safety of the applicant/applicants family and there is no other way of preventing it. For example, they will pay for an oven, however, if you have a microwave, they wont pay for the oven.

we can't take it down as otherwise the whole world and their dogs would be walking through her garden! I have already fixed it but the fence posts have rotten so there isn't much we can do without a professional because they will have to be dug up and all this stuff that i have no idea about for the mean time we have held it up by some string stuff that we have nailed to the house and re slatted most of it so that will have to do until the cash has been saved up! Anyway my own investigations have revealed a crisis loan would not cover it as it is a very large fence and estimates are way above the maximum amounts, so it was not worth me asking this question in the first place!!!
Thanks for the helpful comments anyway!0 -

common sense would suggest that she would not be intitled to one because it isnt a crisis that a fence is falling down.
does she have house insurance? some insurers cover gardens walls, fences, sheds etc, perhaps she could call them and ask if they can help even if they cant/wont pay they could put you intouch with a reputible company in your area if you ask. or perhaps if she's lucky meet 50/50 incosts of repairing the fencing if she hasnt claimed in years and years of taking out cover as a good will gesture.0 -
thanks.
It can't be done by insurance as I would assume that they would say its gradual damage caused by natural effects of the weather! Thankyou for your advice anyway!
Basically I wanted to know if she could get one, as I thought a crisis loan was to avoid danger and if it fell down someone would be in danger, her or a passer by. My mum struggles with money alot and she is trying to save up for it but an interest free loan would have meant she didn't have to worry about it anymore and could get it done before winter, I do not understand crisis loans.
I didn't know not having a cooker could be classified as one, why is that dangerous? You don't have to eat hot food to not be in danger?
I think I understand the crisis loan payment criteria now though so thankyou.0 -
They have some strange rules on what counts and what doesn't...

A falling down fence is no crisis, it has to be a crisis to a person/human not fence!0

I think that crisis loans are meant for those on low incomes, £18,000 is hardly low.
Being able to have cooked food is rather important, especially for the elderly in the colder months.
In life over time we learn to save and budget for our homes expenses, as work has already been done on the fence why did she not start saving then, if she did get a loan how could she pay it back if she was unable to save when it was obvious that the fence was going to need replacing in the near future.0
