Old Money was taken off a member of my family by cashier

This bit suggests the cashier didn't just assume ti was a fake because it was old:
Also she had used a scanner that said that the note was fake
No it suggests that because the note didnt bear the security features of the current notes, that she assumed it was fake. Unless she's an expert in forged notes......in which case she should have know older notes arent as "secure" as new notes. You keep using that word. Back in the olden days no doubt.

So why does OP say in the first post that she also used a scanner that showed it to be fake? There is nothing at all to suggest that any security measures were or were not missing from the note, merely that 'she had to put lines across the watermark' which might mean she tried a security pen first and that showed issues.
Obviously though I am going only by what is says in original post, if you are aware there is more to the story then the situation may well be different.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. You didnt see the ebay link in my first post you quoted? You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
There's no time limit on exchanging old notes apparently, so it is worth knowing whether it's fake or simply old. Go back to the shop, ask for a receipt and ask how they're going to notify you what the outcome is. Basically the shop will send it off to the Bank of England to be analysed, and if it turns out to be genuine, the shop will be refunded. So if you don't get that receipt, and the note turns out to be real, you've lost a tenner and Tesco have added to their profits that little bit more."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

The Bank of England will always honour its old notes.0
