I had my mini lop vaccinated for this today, he will need it every 6 months as we are in a high risk area.It cost £25.00 + vat this seems a lot to me as the dogs were £27.00 each for their boosters which I would have thought cost a lot more.(Cost me over £110.00 with one thing another at the vet today) How much to you usually pay for this?

I have recently got rabbits and £20 per vaccination seems to be about average where I live. There is one vets near me does both the Myxi and VHD jabs for £35.0

Hi Poppyoscar, I paid £24 and a few pence for the myxi jab and a tube of panacur a couple of weeks ago, the VHD is being done Monday but not sure how much that is!0

i have a mini lop, hes nearly 4 months. im going to get him neutered and the jabs aswel. this is similar to the price iv been told.
how old is your bunny? just trying to work out what age they can have the jabs0 -
Hi Trixie
He is 3 months old.
As I said he had his Myxi yesterday and he will have the VHD in three weeks time. The vet had told me he can be neutered when he is 5 months(forgot to ask how much that will be!)
We have a lot of wild rabbits here and I have seen them with Myxi and it is horrible so I will have him vaccinated every 6 months.I must admit I didn't think about this when I got him so he is going to be an expensive bunny but I don't want anything to happen to him.
I suppose I could have looked around for the cheapest price but I just took him along with my dogs when they got their jabs. One vet on the net(not anywhere near me though) is quoting £14.00 so it seemed a lot to me.0 -
Hi, I live in the North East and our local independent vet (not a chain) charges £17-19 for the myxi & VHD jabs. I cant remember which is which. I have a regular lop and an english rabbit and they never charged me that much....I know the dose goes off weight and my last 2 were 2.5kilos and 3.5kilos, our new rabbit is a lop and is going on Monday......will let you know how much that is for her Myxi but i'm sure it'll be less than £20 again (that's with vat).
We're not in a very high risk area so its every 12months for us at the mo.
BTW - pancur the popular wormer is also available in pet shops (pets at home do it) you could try there to see if its cheaper than at the vets.
Also there are 2 different myxi vaccines - LAPINJECT and CYLAP. I think one of them lasts longer once the bottle is opened but the other has less incidence of causing an allergic reaction (some rabbits get scabs from where it was injected into their skin). It could be that you're getting the more expensive brand.0 -
Mine are £16 per vacc. Where are you PoppyOscar, maybe someone could recomend you a cheaper vet?August grocery challenge: £50
Spent so far: £37.40 :A0 -
I pay £16 here.
Cylap and Lapinject are vaccinations against VHD not myxi. Lapinject only comes in multi dose bottles so most vets don't use it as it has to be used the same day its open. Cylap comes in single doses which is why vets seem to favour it. If your vets are happy to use Lapinject then I'd certainly go with that as it has far less side effects.
Also male rabbits can be neutered as soon as their testicles drop which can be anything from about 12 weeks onwards, although can be earlier.
What area are you in? Maybe someone can suggest a rabbit savvy vet in your area.0 -
Thanks everyone for your replies.
My vet is an independent one not a chain. After seeing that program a few weeks ago I want to stick to an independent one.
I must admit although the charge is a bit more than some I was impressed with the vet. He did give him a good check over, took his temp. listened to his heart etc. (I don't know if they all do that anyway) and Hudson did not flinch when he injected him so on reflection I think I will probably stay with them.
Do some vets specialize in small animals like rabbits then.He did have loads of charts on the wall about rabbits( if that even means anything!)?0 -

Yes, unfortunately good rabbit vets can be hard to find.
You sound happy with the one you've got so I'd stick with them.0 -

hi
I'm sorry but who said to just have your bunnies vaccinated every 12 months, I'm no vet but surely that can't be right?
I live in the north east too and I've just lost 2 bunnies to Mixi :-(A heap big thank you to everyone who posts the comps, your all stars!
Proud to of never used or felt the need to use a chain of any sorts on a puppy0
